The Jacksons [2022] - Philadelphia Re​-​edit Sessions [Simpson Uniquity] (Full Album)


Paul Simpson is back with the first Philadelphia Re-edit Sessions since The Three Degrees in August. This time out his subject is The Jacksons.

All tracks are from their two Philadelphia International albums "The Jacksons" (1976) and "Goin' Places" (1977) except "Do the best you can" which appears to be an unreleased track.

Paul's missed a trick though, as the glaring omission is the flip to their UK pop chart #1 "Show Me The Way To Go" single "Blues Away" (written by Michael aged 18 and apparently his first song-writing credit) which is a long time favourite on the UK rare groove/modern soul scene! 

However, the top tracks are the aforementioned "Show Me The Way To Go", "Even Though You're Gone" (albeit and instrumental version only), "Living Together" (album only) and "Style Of Life" (flip to "Enjoy Yourself").

Don't forget that these edits are only available for a limited period i.e. two weeks (until 31 Oct) and are only available from Bandcamp.

H'Atina [2022] - Elements of a Real Man [Self Released] (Official Music Video)


On 9 Sep 2022 H'Atina released her four track EP "Elements of a Real Man" which included the chart topper "Be Mine". The EP was posted then along with video for "Be Mine" and premiere for "Impossible" which went live on 13 Sep.

She now has a video for the title track "Elements of a Real Man" which premieres tonight (17 Oct) at 21:00 (UK time). Top quality 'real' soul music for 2022.

Luqman Frank [2022] - Baby Come Home [Light Form Music]


Berkeley, CA, based singer-songwriter Luqman Frank has been a fixture of the San Francisco Bay Area music scene for the past decade. He has performed with artists such as Carlos Santana, Yolanda Adams, Pete Escovedo, Narada Michael Walden, Ledisi, Bill Ortiz (Santana), Cornell C.C Carter amongst many others.

He is putting the finishing touches to his twelve track debut album "The Light of the Sun" which will include all six singles released so far since Feb 2022: "Gonna Be Alright" (Feb '22), "Never" (Apr '22), "Light Of The Sun" (May '22), "All My Love" (Jun '22), "Bring Your Love" (Jul '22) and his current single "Baby Come Home" released today (17 Oct 2022).

The album is produced and co-writer Quincy B. Griffin and is inspired by their shared love of 70s soul legends Al Green and Curtis Mayfield so you won't be surprised by the retro sweet soul sound.

A quick dip into Discogs reveals that he has featured on recordings by Miquel  Migs and on backing vocals for Kelly Finnigan's "The Tales People Tell" album in 2019.

SoulStrutter selections of the best releases this week

In no particular order other than tempo. 

This week's dozen extended to fifteen as it's been a bit lean on the more traditional soul front of late. They're all from this week except a latent discovery of Annyett Royale from 2 Sep and Leven Kali was released back in April but he released a video for it on Monday ahead of including it on an EP of the same name ("Let It Rain") on 28 Oct.

The Jack Moves third album "Cruiserweight" chose itself as SoulStrutter Selection of the Week upon hearing it on Friday as it's a solid set throughout. However, in other weeks several others may have made it such as Lynn Davis, Mikhala Jené, Adi Oasis and CJW (Chris Weaver) with what I believe is a debut single
