Franklin Sinclair [2022-03-11] - New Music Hour [Global Soul Radio]

Franklin Sinclair's weekly look at the brand new releases in his New Music Hour on Global Soul Radio aired each Friday between 18:00-19:00 GMT.

I don't think many fully appreciate the amount of effort that goes into producing a show of this type each week and it's easy to 'snipe' from the sidelines about some of the quality. I know from personal experience how difficult it is sifting through the scores/hundreds of very poor releases searching for the nuggets and some weeks are much better than others and, this year so far especially, some weeks have been pretty poor. So please show some appreciation for the time and effort that goes into attempting to present the better of the week's new releases.

NB links to tracks already posted otherwise links to Spotify (or in a couple of instances Soundcloud).

Daphne Dash [2022] - Twin Souls [Self Released] (Full EP)

Daphne Dash last featured on the blog with her "Magnolia" EP last September which had "Hold On" as the standout track.

I 'suspect' that her real name is Taylor Breaux as all tracks on this and other EPs are attributed to her on writers credits.

She released a five track EP "Twin Souls" on 4 Mar 2022. I'm not feeling this EP as much as "Magnolia" with only the opening track "Cherish The Time" getting my attention along with "No Many Times".

CASHMA [2022] - Purple Apartment [Kalombo Records] (Full Album)

CASHMA from Atlanta, GA, featured on the blog in January with her last single "I Like Your Pants" which is included on her new (fourth) album along with another previous single "Body Love".

Apart from the last single nothing else really stands out immediately except perhaps "Night Is On Fire" as it's predominantly  pop/R&B tunes, although "Paradise At Home" is beginning to grow on me. An album that probably needs a few listens.

Robert IMtume Owens [2022] - Don't Give Up [Sound Of Superbad]

The new single from Robert IMtume Owens "Don't Give Up" is due out officially on 25 Mar 2022 but has been pre-released on Bandcamp for two weeks ONLY.

The single was produced by Sound Of Superbad's Andy Welland who collaborated with him on their UK soul chart #1 hit "Vibration" in 2021 released by Izipho Soul.

Robert recorded his first single in 1979 as part of a show group, Showtime, who recorded a cover of Commodores "Three Times A Lady". He went on to study jazz percussion at Kansas University and formed a fusion jazz band called Group Therapy (which lasted about two years) and was the lead singer for a pop band called Kokomo from 1984-1994 (I don't think it's the UK band of the same name).

He won the Budweiser Showdown two years in a row which introduced him to Max Groove, a contemporary jazz artist from Kansas City, who was one of the judges. Max asked him to record the vocal for the title cut for his 1988 "Midnight Rain" album (included below). This was the turning point when Robert decided to go professional and led to him working with Gerald Albright, Freddie Jackson, Najee, Alex Bugnon, Eric Gable, Tony Terry, Ashford and Simpson, and Grover Washington Jr. to name just a few.

Kim Tibbs [2022] - Where Would I Be Without You? [Izipho Soul]

After a five year hiatus Kim Tibbs will be releasing a new album "THE SCiENCE OF COMPLETiON VOLUME I". It was recorded at the legendary Royal Studios in Memphis with a live 25 piece orchestra featuring many renown musicians. The epic double album on which Ms Tibbs has been working for the last five years, will be released on vinyl by Izipho Soul later his year around summer time.

The lead single "Where Would I Be Without You?" will be available digitally (Bandcamp) on 21 Mar 2022 and also on 7" vinyl, probably in May with pressing plants permitting. Our man Roger Williams has been let loose with his crayons one more time for the cover art for both single and album.

Kim had several UK Soul Chart hits in 2016 with "I Need You For Your Love" and "Soul" along with "Drifting", "For!" and "Move" all featuring on her debut album "Kim" released 25 Aug 2017 by Ralph Tee's Expansion Records which was posted earlier this week as a teaser.
