K-Rob [2022] - 2Nite [Self Released]

A forthcoming single from K-Rob "2Nite" which has been delivered with two versions a US and UK mix ... now if I were to be being picky then the UK one should be titled "2Night" 😉

K-Rob is Keith Robertson and his last single was a cover Isley-Jasper-Isley "Caravan Of Love" which was 'controversially' covered by The Housemartins as an acapella in the UK in 1986 and was a Christmas #1 whilst the original version reached only #52 the year before. The video for it states that Isley-Jasper-Isley were his uncles and it appears that he is related to the Isleys.

The new single was in fact featured on his 2006 self-titled album and also appeared on an earlier album "2Nite" and was released with multiple versions on CDS in 2002 as his debut single and did well in the UK first time around.

The promo didn't come with any information, so whether these are new mixes for 2022 or reissues, I don't know without comparing all previous versions, but the song lengths received on promo are identical to the tracks featured on his 2006 album so I'm assuming they are reissues.

Incidentally there's a good version of Stevie's "Golden Lady" on the album.

I.KHAN [2022] - Love Ship [Kannon Entertainment]

I.KHAN is Indira Milini Khan and you would correct in assuming that she is related to the legendary Chaka Khan as she is her daughter. Chaka was born Yvette Marie Stevens and got her surname from her marriage, aged 17, to Hassan Khan in 1970 but Indira was born out of  relationship with Rahsaan Morris after her divorce to Khan.

Indira was signed to Motown in the 90s as a member of a girl group Pretty In Pink, whilst still in her teens, who released just one album, "Wake Up", and two singles in 1991. 

After that she worked with Miki Howard, Johnny Gill, Shabba Ranks, Yvette Michelle, Paula Abdul and of course her mother.  In 2016 she featured in "Love Under New Management: The Miki Howard Story" a biopic about Miki Howard's life where Indira portrayed her mother.

She has been recording solo as I.KHAN since 2020 and has released her second single of 2022 on Friday titled "Love Ship".

Liyah Knight [2022] - Play It Cool [Self Released]

Alliyah Cici Adejoke Fareo, otherwise know as Liyah Knight, is and Italian-Nigerian singer/songwriter from Sydney. However, first and foremost, she says she's a poet and storyteller and has been writing from a young age but only in the last few years learned to sing them.

With her latest single "Play It Cool" she now has nine singles and two EPs under her belt since debuting in Sep 2020.

Nicole Chambers Feat. Leila Dey [2022] - Runnin' From Love [Chambers Soul]

Canadian singer/songwriter Nicole Chambers is from Brampton which is in Greater Toronto that hotbed of neo soul. With so many artists from there I thought I'd better check the population as there seems to be an inordinate amount of new artists emanating from there. I was surprised to discover that it has a population of close to 6 million!

She debuted with an EP "How Could I Forget" and her latest album "Voice of a Virgo" arrived in Sep 2020. Her latest single, "Runnin' From Love" featuring fellow Torontonian Leila Dey, was delivered on 17 Nov 2022, which is her second single this year following "All Day" in June.

Yamiko [2022] - Shadow Magic [Cruel Section] (Full EP)

Cape Town artist Yamiko released her first single "Healing" in July 2020  but nothing else until April 2022. She has now released four singles this year along with this six track EP "Shadow Magic" last week (11 Nov '22). It contains just one of the singles "Out Of Time" from Oct but not her latest "Potions" released only a week before the EP.
