Michael Gray Feat. Brutha Basil & Tatiana Owens [2022] - In My World [Glitterbox Recordings#GLITS0090D]

A nice bit of soulful house / nu disco, however you wish to categorise it, from Michael Gray featuring Brutha Basil and Tatiana Owens. "In My Word" was released last Friday (25 Nov).

Brutha Basil has featured on these pages a couple of times already with "Keep Keeping On" in May and a mashup of Gil Scott-Heron classics in "Because Of Gil" in March 2021. 

It's Tatiana Owen's debut on the blog but we are told that she has performed background vocals for Stevie Wonder's "Songs In The Key Of Life" tour at The Prudential Center in Newark, NJ and has released just shy of twenty singles and an album "Colorful Too" in Oct 2020.

Michael Gray is a British DJ and house music producer.

Steven Stone & Lifford Shillingford [2022] - I Didn't Know (Radio Mix) [Soul Deluxe Recordings]

Released a few weeks ago on 13 Nov but an extended mix was released on Traxsource on Friday (2 Dec '22) is a new single from Steven Stone & Lifford Shillingford "I Didn't Know".

Shilligford was a singer with Artful Dodger and appeared on Britain's Got Talent in 2018 blowing the judges (and audience) away with a superb rendition of Sam Cooke's "A Change Is Gonna Come" which earned him the golden buzzer from Alisha Dixon (video below).

So the occasional trawl through Traxsource unearths the usual samples and covers over which dance and house beats have been placed. HRNS [2022] Teena's Cry (David Harness and Tedd Patterson Remix) [Moulton Music]

A soulful house tune released on Friday (2 Dec '22) by HRNS (which appears to be a first releases under this banner, presumably an abbreviation of Harness?) titled "Teena's Cry" remixed by David Harness and Tedd Patterson.

It intrigued me with Teena obviously being a reference to Teena Marie as it samples portions of her vocals from "Casanova Brown" an album only track from "Robbery" (1983). It will be the 12th anniversary of her, far too early, demise on Boxing Day (26 Dec) aged 54. A tribute was posted HERE.

It's released on Moulton Music which I initially suspected was related to the great Tom Moulton but it is a San Francisco label run by Homero Espinosa aka DJ Huey.

Anyway, it's a good enough excuse to post Teena Marie's modern soul/rare groove classic!
