Mone't [2022] - Fairytale [Self Released]

Asia Mone't Phillips (previously Beasley) is a singer/songwriter from Sacramento, CA, who released a new single "Fairytale" today (22 May 2022)) which is a track from her forthcoming EP "The Narcissist Tapes" (a great title for which I think there could be a long queue lol!). Bizarrely there is another singer called Mone't who also released a song titled "Fairytale" in 2018.

It probably doesn't stand a hope in Hell of getting in any of the charts, as soulful ballads never seem to do well here, but that's not the be all and end all. It's a good song well sung, that many of us who don't follow fads and just appreciate good soul music will enjoy.

I've also included her last two singles "New Numbers" from June last year and "Slipped Away" from Feb 2020, just to show that her latest single isn't a flash in the pan. "New Numbers" features Darian TFO and uses a recurring sample with a kid saying 'grooves on the track' that has cropped up on several recent recordings.

Brooklyn Love [2022] - Grey Space [Self Released]

Brooklyn Love (Brooke Abdullah) appears to have released a debut EP/album "Bklv Chapter 1" in 2017 and has since been economical with further releases with two singles in 2019 (both from the EP), and one each in 2020 and 2021 and "Grey Space" will be her first of 2022 released today (22 May 2022). I don't know why that would be as to me ears she has a a very pleasant voice and tone.

Clowette [2022] - Glowing [82O]

Just as her last single ("Muzil Is Luv"), is declining on Global Soul Chart, Clowette slipped out her new single "Glowing" last week (13 May 2022).

Clowette (Stephanie Clowette Johnson-Williams) is an Afro/Caribbean singer/songwriter from L.A. and this is her sixth single since her first in 2018.

The Shindellas [2022] - BBQs & Body Rolls Intro [Weirdo Workshop]

The first release of 2022 for The Shindellas is the oddly titled "BBQs & Body Rolls Intro", and why 'intro' as it seems to suggest more to come .. and indeed after a little bit of digging they have a new EP due called "BBQs & Body Rolls"? 

The song is written by Charles Harmon and Claude Kelly aka Louis York who run the Weirdo Workshop label.  It's another that 'borrows' a line or two from Aretha's "Daydreaming" although daydreaming is converted to daydrinking ... I'm sure there's a few who will 'drink to that'!

Yahali [2022] - Channel Red: Deluxe. [Self Released] (Full Album)

"Channel Red" by Yahali was originally released at the end of March with seven tracks but has been reissued as a deluxe edition yesterday (21 May 2022) with an additional four tracks. 

Yahali (Jha'Liyahana Khuza-Torres) is a new artist from Cincinnati and her only other release is a single "Home" on 10 Mar which has been added to the deluxe edition as a bonus track.

It's quite an ethereal affair with a few nice tracks but the one that stands out is "Showing Up. (Keep Showing Love)" which I think is rather good. "Games" and a few other tracks could well be growers.

Michon Young [2022] - Love, Life, Experiences, Vol. 3: Conversation Piece [Self Released] (Full Album Samples)

Michon Young's new album "Love, Life, Experiences, Vol. 3: Conversation Piece" (four new and two old tracks from which were premiered here on 2 May)) is out next Friday (27 May 2022).

"Cause I Love You" was pre-released as a single on 13 May 2022 but it still isn't available on either Spotify or YouTube.

Although she released an album in 2011 it was her breakthrough "Something About You" from her  2016 album "Love, Life, Experiences, Vol. 1" that gained her attention, certainly on this side of the pond at least.

The album contains two singles, "Happy" and "Your That One", and four interludes so I'll only post samples of the twelve new songs but will post the full album on Friday.
