My selection of the best releases this week (Apr 2022 Wk 14)

In no particular order other than tempo. 

Still catching up on the week I was away so there may well be some tunes I've missed for this week. There is a separate  'The Neo Dirty Dozen Wk 14' already posted which I think gives a bit more 'elbow room' for tracks that may have otherwise missed out. 

It's a bit of a compromise as once I'd split out the Neo soul tunes there weren't enough left to fill a main dozen and a covers dozen so there are several covers included i.e Output/Input, Jarrod Lawson, a remix (Output/ Input Eye To Eye) and quite a few that may have normally been assigned to the retro category i.e. DeRobert & The Half-Truths, Thee Illusions and Carlton Jumel Smith and possibly even Laura Rain. 

I think the obvious standout from this playlist is the Output/Input double sider which is currently topping the UK Soul Chart and was a new entry into Global Soul Chart. Laura Rain & The Caesars and Jarrod Lawson are also new entries in UK Soul Chart which is making it difficult choosing a SoulStrutter Selection of the Week, but I think if I were doing this at the time it would probably have been Laura Rain & The Caesars album. As I said when the album was posted, often times after a few singles have been pre-released, there is nothing of substance left, but that is not the case with this album.

Global Soul Chart 16th Apr 2022 (Week 15)

The Global Soul chart broadcast on Sat 16th Apr as it is every Saturday between  5pm-7pm (GMT) on Global Soul Radio.

No "Essential 5" again this week but the 'Breakers' will be posted separately.

Jermaine Hardsoul is replaced at the top after two weeks by Eric Roberson's new album "Lessons" whilst Ezinne Nnorom is a massive climber of 15 places up to the second spot only 12 days after release.

There are 6 new entries all in the lower end of the chart with the highest being Gwen Burns at #12 so I wonder how many will cling on for another week.

Five of the six predicted to go last week have gone along with Nia Soul.  It looks like 'ta ta' next week to Joyce Wrice for certain with a massive drop of 16 places from #2 which I won't be shedding a tear over as never liked it and therefore never posted it! I suspect that Jessica Childress and Jermaine Hardsoul may also be casualties next week. 

Having said that I don't think there is anything that particularly stands out in the last week that is obvious to replace them. However, at time of writing Secret Soul Society - Sensitive People is topping the Amazon Hot New Releases. A few other tips include Novine, Shan Ako, Alyse Elys and Velvet Bloom perhaps. It wouldn't surprise me if the 'new' Samuel Archer album gets a entry in a week or two even though it has been out since 1 Oct 2021 on Bandcamp.

The Terri Green Project & Randy Hall [2022] - Turnt Up Tonight (Extended Mix) [Euro Musik]

The Terri Green Project is songwriting and producer  duo Terri Bjerre (aka Terri Green) and Torsten Abrolat (aka Todd Reed) who have teamed up with 80s artist Randy Hall for their latest single "Turnt Up Tonight" released 11 Apr 2022. It is followed a week later with an extended mix (4:48 v 3:50) on 18 Apr 2022.

The song was co-written and co-produced by Reggie Staggers (brother of Marc Staggers) and features NWO (New World Order) Lenny Harris (Saxophone), Wondel Brown (Trombone), and Dr Gilbert Pryor (Trumpet).

A new EP from The Terri Green Project is due late summer 2022.
