China Bowls [2023] - First Light [Self Released] (Full EP)

China Bowls is Lucie Bowles from London who now has six singles listed since her first in 2016. Her first appearance here was with a single  "Night Owl" released on 27 Oct 2022.

She has a new four track EP "First Light" on which "Night Owl" and another single from last year, "Holy", both feature. Of the two new songs the title track edges it.

I can't find a lot about her, just try searching Google with 'China Bowls'!

Joyia [2023] - Drive [Boom.Records]

Toronto, normally, a hotbed of neo soul, has been quiet so far this year and the first artist to emerge from there this year is singer, songwriter, producer, composer, DJ Joyia (aka Kassandra Nunes) with her latest single "Drive".

After joining a choir at 6, she grew up taking classical piano and vocal lessons, before finally teaching herself music production and DJing in her teens. Her first show was at Toronto's once legendary club, The Guvernment, when she was 18. 

She experimented with electronic music when she started out explaining that it taught her fundamental elements of production. For the last couple of years she has since refined her musical style and returned to her early soul, jazz, and r&b influences.

When not writing and producing her own music she DJs and performs live at residencies around Toronto.

Dessy Di Lauro [2023] - Strength of A Woman [Self Released]

Dessy Di Lauro is an R&B/neo ragtime singer from L.A. (born in Montreal of Cuban, Brazilian, Italian descent) who debuted in 2004 with an EP "A Study Of A Woman's Soul". She has a great set of pipes, but her neo-ragtime material is an acquired taste, which I've yet to acquire!

She last featured here in 2021 on a single with Ali Campbell's UB40 singer Matt Hoy on a very pleasant lovers rock style tune "Wonderland" an also with Malcolm Joseph on "Falling" on his "Robotics" EP.

She has a new solo single out since 23 Jan in tribute to women titled "Strength of A Woman" along with a supporting video.

Jarna Feat. spdrtwnbby [2023] - Birds & The Eagles [Self Released]

Jarna (Parsons) is a relatively new artist from Auckland New Zealand. In her second year at university in 2019 she decided that she wanted to make a career in music. Her debut single "Crush" was delivered  in Jan 2020 and she now as almost twenty to her name along with two albums ("memoirs of the brokenhearted" (Aug 2020) and  "memoirs of the brokenhearted, Pt 2" (Nov 2021)).

Her new single "Birds & Eagles" features spdrtwnbby (I have no idea how you would even begin to pronounce that name!).

JGrrey [2023] - Theirs13 [PACE]

One left over from last week's batch that we didn't get around to posting. It's very short and sweet with a running time of only 2:04.

JGrrey (real name Jennifer Clarke) is from London and debuted in 2017 and in that time has released getting on for twenty singles. She supported Billie Eilish on her European tour. Her new single "Theirs13" was released 18 Jan '23.

She featured in British Vogue magazine when we last posted a single from her in Apr 2021, which was "Down".
