Channel Tres [2023] - Real Cultural Shit [RCA] (Full EP)

A five track EP "Real Cultural Shit" from Chanel Tres which I was drawn to by "Just Can't Get Enough" which made more sense when it dawned on me that the sample is from Teddy P's "The More I Get The More I Want".

Straight outta Compton, L.A., DJ/producer/musician Sheldon Young, under his pseudonym Channel Tres, states that he blends the drive of Detroit techno and the grooves of Chicago house with the snarl of West Coast rap. We've just tagged it as soulful house for want of a genre.

Marion Javius [2023] - Waiting In The Wings [Athens Of The North #ATH133]

A new vinyl 7" from Athens Of The North, Marion Javius "Waiting In The Wings" is due on 3 Mar '23. 

It comes with the original 1978 mix on Encore Records on the flip and a new ECLA Mix which has been rebuilt from master tapes. The reason for the remix has a humorous backstory which you can read on the label's Bandcamp page, I won't steal the thunder. 

It seems to be the only release for the Houston, TX, based label and artist, under that name at least, but I wonder if it's the same singer who recorded two singles on Roxbury in '73 and '75 as Marion Jarvis?

Kubla [2023] - Running Loose [Self Released]

Back a few weeks to 3 Feb for this release from blue-eyed soulie Kubla who has featured here before, almost exactly a year ago, with his single "Move On". His latest single "Running Loose" is in a similar vein and is a bit of a retro funky groover.

He is Canadian singer Kiaran McMillan from Ontario (his nickname/stage name came from the Samuel Taylor Coleridge poem 'Kublah Khan', the first two lines of which were used by Frankie Goes To Hollywood in "Welcome To The Pleasuredome" in 1984).

Payton Moore [2023] - Boomerang [Self Released]

Payton Moore makes her tenth release since 2017 which includes two EP's. Her latest single "Boomerang" is her first of 2023 and is credited simply to Payton on some DSPs and her material seems to be bundled in with other artists of the same name making it difficult to find. I had difficulty searching for it on Amazon but  found it with a bit of trickery (link on cover image so you don't have the same trouble).

Payton is originally from San Fernando, CA, now living in Atlanta, GA, and debuted with "Fallen" in 2017 which received over 200k views on YouTube.

pastels & Jessica Domingo [2023] - Could've Been U [Nettwerk Music Group]

"Could've Been U" is a collaboration between Pastels (Annie Bui), a musician / producer based in Melbourne, and  L.A. based Jessica Domingo originally from Seattle. 

Domingo released her sophomore album "Butterfly Paradise" in Oct '21 but nothing of significance since, only an acoustic version of "Lotus" from the album.
