Timothy Bloom [2021] - Losing My Mind [TopNotch Music]

Where's this one been hiding? Released last week (14 May 2021), but I've only just come across it, and how glad I am that I did, as this, for me, is the standout release that I've found this week! Unless something very special crops up in the next 24 hours, I suspect this will be next week's selection of the week.

It has an across the board appeal to both lovers of traditional soul, but also has a contemporary sound to appeal to those who prefer the newer sound. Whatever your taste, this is quality 'real' soul music.

He's a new artist to me, but has been around for a while, collaborating with the legendary Smokey Robinson, writing two songs released on Smokey's 2005 album 'My World', including the title track and the other called 'Fallin'.

He was born in El Paso, TX, but raised by his preacher parents, in Fayetteville, NC. He debuted as a solo artist in 2011 with an EP 'The Budding Rose' (unfortunately no longer available on Spotify), and has released three albums to date which I'll definitely be checking out

DJ AK & Adesha [2021] - Crush [GZR]

A new single from Adesha, released 21 May 2021, is a collaboration with French DJ AK and is a real early 80s boogie/funk throwback with the use of the vocoder thrown in for good measure.

Adesha (Johnson) is from Oakland, CA. After opening for several big artists (e.g. Ledisi, Anthony David, Carl Thomas & Jazmine Sullivan) she is progressing her own career. This will be her fifth single, along with two EPs and an album 'Giving Love A Try' released in 2014.

If you like that early 80s sound then check out her single from Sep last year 'I'm Satisfied With My Love' which is so authentic it could easily be mistaken for having been recorded then.

Nialanii [2021] - Turn To Me [Self Released]

I mentioned Nialanii in the last post with her use of the reoccurring sample on her debut single 'Come Over'. By sheer coincidence she has released a new single 'Turn Me Out' on 7 May 2021 and also an EP on 4 May 2021.

Nialanii is a 20 year old artist of black/Filipino heritage from Hawaii who moved to California to compete a degree and pursue a music career which was cut short by the pandemic, resulting in her return to Hawaii. It would also appear that she has a swimwear and activewear business.

This is her fourth release, as since she released 'Come Over' she posted another two tracks on her YT channel on 4 May 2021 'Holiday' and 'IDK Man', so I've posted all three tracks below. It would also seem that 'Holiday', 'IDK Man' and 'Come Over' have been bundled into a self-titled three track EP, (click blue image below).

Whilst she has Spotify and SoundCloud channels neither has any material posted (yet).

Marzz [2021] - Countless Times [Keep Cool]

Marzz (Laria McCormick), a new young artist from Louisville, KY, has released her latest single 'Countless Times' on 20 May 2021. It's from a forthcoming debut EP 'Love Letterz' due 17 Jun 2021.  

It's got the same  feel as 'that' sample which keeps cropping up used by Cherish D. 'Wait For Me', Carmyn's 'Come Over', Nialani 'Come Over', Kole Alyse 'We Gon' Make It' and VNUS Feat. Tank The Machine 'Vulnerable' and probably others!

This will be her fourth single already this year. She debuted in 2020 with the single 'Rain Freestyle' which is probably one of her best releases.

She came to the attention of Timbaland in 2019 who has agreed to work with her on her EP.

CeCe Peniston [2021] - I'm Feelin' U (Remixes) [Soulfuric Recordings]

A remix of CeCe Peniston's 2007 track 'I'm Feelin' U' was released with six mixes, three short versions and three extended versions. The best mix, for me is the 'T.Markakis Class 'N' Groove Mix' but I'll include all.

Cecilia Veronica Peniston was born in Dayton, OH in 1970, but spent her formative years in Phoenix, AZ. She rose to fame in the 90s with many club/dance hits including, of course, her first and biggest hit, 'Finally' in 1991.
