Gwendolyn Collins [2021] - Favorites - Storytelling Side I & II [Self Released] (Full Album)

Gwendolyn Collins released her debut album "Storytelling Side I" in 2014 and "Storytelling Side II" followed in 2016,  both were hits on the UK Soul chart. 

This release selects tracks from both albums along with four singles "Hold Me" Feat. IISMA (2018), "Luv You Like" (2017), "Share" with Ollie Wright (2013) and "Luv The Way Ya" (2018) along with a remix of "The Simple Things" by MFASOL for an album titled "Favorites - Storytelling Side I & II" released on 19 Aug 2021.

It kicks off quite nicely with a modern take on Barry White's "I'm Gonna Love You Just A Little More Baby" (a nice version done by Kellee Patterson on Shady Brook in 1976)  retitled "I'm Gonna Luv You". It's a good mix of tunes from her two albums and a selection of singles, all with a soulful jazz flava.

I'm not quite sure why the album has been released now except that she has released her first new single since 2018 ("Roll With Me") yesterday (25 Aug 2021), so perhaps it's to win over new listeners on the back of the single? It only appears to be available via BandCamp for a snip at just $7 (that's only £5.11 for fourteen tracks)!

Gwendolyn Collins Feat. Black Orchid & Tey Yaniis [2021] - Roll With Me [Self Released]

The first new single since 2018 from indie artist Gwendolyn Collins (from Odenton, MD) who recruits the services of  Black Orchid & Tey Yaniis for her latest single "Roll With Me" released yesterday (25 Aug 2021). 

This sounds like a winner to me, especially in the UK where she had a #1 hit with her her 2014 debut album "Storytelling Side I" and another top 10 hit with the follow up "Storytelling Side II" in 2016 (more about that in a later post! ... stay toooned ... don't touch that dial!).

Rena Scott [2021] - You're So Far Away [Izipho Soul ZP67]

Izipho Soul announces their latest 45 due for release next Friday (3 Sep 2021).

It comes from Detroit's Rena Scott probably most famous for her, largely uncredited, vocals on Michael Henderson's modern soul gem "Take Me I'm Yours" from his "In The Night Time" album from 1978. I did a profile on Rena Scott back in Feb after her last Izipho Soul release "Driftin' On A Dream" so please go there for further info.

"You're So Far Away" is a song Rena has resurrected from her archives and has re-recorded the vocals for the Nigel Lowis Remix.

Scotty Sax & Kenton Lee [2021] - Angel Of Light [Self Released]

This one, surprisingly, seems to have, thus far, escaped DJ's playlist as far as I can tell. It's the debut solo single from Sydney saxophonist/DJ Scotty Sax (Scott Baulderstone) featuring South African singer Kenton Lee (Kenton Windvoge) on vocal duties. "Angel Of Light" was released last Friday (20 Aug 2021).

Hopefully, this post may alert some to programme it as it's the sort of tune that tends to do well in the UK.

Scotty Sax is a veteran of the Sydney live music scene playing with a now defunct band Grover and also The Royals.

Show Tyme [2021] - Good Love [Cold Rain]

A breaker this week on the UK Soul Chart (Starpoint) is a southern soul style tune "Good Love" from an artist named Show Tyme released on 20 Aug 2021.

Luroner 'Show Tyme' Brooks is from Trenton, NJ. He got his stage name "Show Tyme" from Case when he was working with him. In 2013 he collaborated with Big Daddy Kane to form Las Supper who released an album "Back To The future". He also featured on Pharoahe Monch (a rapper from Queens, NY) album "Desire" in 2007 and has performed with Case, Donell Jones, K Ci & Jojo, Guru, Jodeci, Musiq Soulchild and Kelly Price amongst others.

He appears to have released around six solo singles and an album ("Love Truth") since 2018.

It is quite remarkable when trying to find some info about him how many artists there are with the name Show Tyme/ Showtyme, there's even another from Jersey which is confusing!
