Jarrod Lawson [2021] - Be The Change (Michele Chiavarini Remix) [Dome]

I posted a teaser for the Michele Chiavarini remixes of Jarrod Lawson's 'Be The Change' a few days ago which was due out today. It's still not released yet (it looks like it's delayed until tomorrow, 8 May) but Dome have set up a couple of videos on YT. The Radio Edit will be premiered at midnight tonight with the Extended version a day later, so I'll post them now ready.

The tempo has been upped a few notches and beefed up into a soulful house groove and it features some added horns by Graeme Flowers on flugelhorn.

Kelly Finnigan [2021] - Can't Let Him Down (Acoustic) [Colemine]

On 4 May 2021 Colemine released an acoustic version of 'Can't Let Him Down' which was a track released on his 2019 debut album 'The Tales People Tell'. The acoustic version is a previously unreleased live recording for a BBC interview/performance. I've posted both for comparison.

Kelly Finnigan is 39 year old blue-eyed soul singer from the Bay Area, CA. He's also a member of The Monophonics. To date he's released three solo albums, the one above in 2019 and an instrumental version of it and a Christmas album 'A Joyful Sound' both released in 2020.

Who said 'honky's ain't got soul'? ... well, actually The Bang Gang did in 1975!

Latanya Alberto [2021] - Hold On (The Royal Escape LP) [Self Released]

Latanya Alberto is another relatively new artist from The Netherlands (Amsterdam), she debuted with an EP 'Ruminate' in 2019. Tristan, Sykes, Rebekka Ling, Full Crate & SABRI and Midas Hutch are others from Holland I've posted recently. She collaborated with Full Crate last year on a single called 'Getaway'.

She released her debut album 'The Royal Escape' yesterday (6 May 2021). It is predominantly R&B, but 'Hold On' is the standout soulful track. 

A few of the tracks have already been released as singles 'Red Flags', 'Royal (Recal)' and 'Trouble', with 'Get It Right' being the new single. The other more soulful/R&B tracks are 'Wake Up' and 'Trouble'. Here's a link to the full album.

Saint Mercedes [2021] - Queen Of Swords [Self Released] (Full EP)

New Orleans artist Saint Mercedes has released a five track debut EP 'Queen Of Swords' on 5 May 2021. It contains three tracks already released as singles this year 'Cry Baby' in Jan, 'Majestic' in Feb and 'Check On Me' in Mar all posted on the blog.  Another track 'Springtime' was also released as a single on 20 Apr (which I missed) and the final track is 'Present'.

Alex Puddu [2021] - Love After Dark [Self Released] (Full Album)

The new album 'Love After Dark' from Italian artist (now based in Copenhagen) Alex Puddu was officially released today (7 May 2021). Three tracks from the album have already been released as singles and posted on the blog 'Shadow Dancer' in Jan, 'Body Heat' in Feb, and 'Only For Men' in Mar. 'Adult Games' was also released as a single in Apr but not posted. The new single will be 'Lady Tonight'.

The album has several featured vocalists: Funmilayo Ngozy, Duane Hobson, Simone Miller, Toby Ernest, Gene Robinson Jr. and James Knights.

It consists of mainly Nu Disco influenced by the 70s/80s. Of the five remaining tracks not yet released as singles, 'We Got A Feeling' (Duane Hobson) has a Chic'ish feel about it with 'strings 'n things', 'Catch The Wave Or Die' (Funmilayo Ngozy) is a mid-tempo stepper, 'Chains Of Love' is a lush 70s style instrumental full of strings, 'Strangers On The Beach' (Simone Miller) is another mid-tempo stepper with synths and the final track 'The Long Road' is probably one of the more soulful tunes on the album featuring the vocals of Duane Hobson.
