Cornell CC Carter [2021] - Next Life [Izipho Soul] (Album Samples)

Following his recent success with "Not Possible", and the ensuing remixes, Cornell CC Carter drops a new album "Next Life" in collaboration with Izipho Soul next month. Album samples have been dispatched which I'll share with you. It's a very strong set of twelve original songs and one cover (NB the lead track is a spoken intro not included).

The highlights, for me, are the stepper "I'm Here", "In The Moment" (a touch of Marvin Gaye influence), "Sho Nuff" (sweet soul ballad written by Rod Temperton and recorded by Heatwave in 1976 on their debut album "Too Hot To Handle" as "Sho'nuff Must Be Luv"),  "Next Life", "Experience" and "Real" but there's not a bad track on the whole set.

In addition to the CD release of the album, four selections are lined up for vinyl release over two 45s. Track titles are being withheld at present but watch this space!

The CD is officially released on 8 Oct 2021 but is available to pre-order at only £12 a pop via Izipho Soul website (less than £1 a track, cheaper than most digital releases!) Please say SoulStrutter sent you.

Aretha Franklin - A Compilation of tracks not featured on Aretha

As alluded to on the Aretha post earlier, here's a compilation of 55 tracks NOT featured on the new "Aretha" compilation released today. Hopefully there may be a track or two you had forgotten about or didn't know? The tracks are in chronological order and begin in 1964 from "Runnin' Out Of Fools" and end with her last album of original material "So Damn Happy" 2003. There's the odd track available only on compilations. (3hrs 36 mins of entertainment .. good for a long journey!)

There were a few tracks from her 70s albums I'd have liked to have included but they are not available on Spotify i.e. "Sunshine Will Never Be The Same", "No One Could Ever Love You More" from "Sweet Passion" (1977), "I Needed You Baby" from "Almighty Fire" (1978) and "Half A Love" from "La Diva" (1979).

Navy [2021] - BLEU, Vol. 1 [The Other Songs] (Full EP)

When I saw this new EP "BLEU, Vol. 1" from Navy, I thought that it would be interesting. However, the disappointing aspect is that, it is simply a collection of all her singles released so far with the exception of "With Love" (on which she was a featured artist for DWM) and the inclusion of only one new song "Diamonds".  Therefore, the best tracks are still "One Shot" (which samples Deniece Williams' "Free") and "LMK".

Most of the material on the EP has already been posted here.

It's a good 'baptism of fire' for those who haven't yet been introduced to the music of Navy. Not to everyone's taste I accept, but undoubtedly a rising new talent.

Stone Foundation [2021] - Echoes of Joy (Outside Looking In LP) [100% Records]

Stone Foundation pre-released a new single "Echoes Of Joy" today (10 Sep 2021) from an album "Outside Looking In" scheduled for release 18 Feb 2022. The title track has also been released but I don't think it's suitable to post as it sounds like something Talking Heads would have recorded and sounds a bit strange, with sound effects and stop start rhythms! There's nothing wrong with Talking Heads, but not on a soul site!

Whilst posting I discovered that this track was actually already released as a single on 19 Jul although Amazon was giving a release date of today for the album version.

Moses Patrou & Soul Tune Allstars [2021] - You Get What'cha Paid For / Who's Gonna Save Me (From Myself) [Soul Tune Records #ST4507]

I got a notification about this new release from Moses Patrou a few weeks ago via email but thought that it was vinyl only on a new Swedish label Soul Tunes, so I was surprised to see it on Spotify.

As it's a vinyl release there are two, both retro,  sides "You Get What'cha Paid For" has a crossover feel  and "Who's Gonna Save Me (From Myself)" is  a bluesy,  mid-tempo ballad.

Moses Patrou is originally from Nashville, TN and now lives in Staten Island, NYC and leads a group called Bk'lyn Dive Bombers. He was formerly a member of Youngblood Brass Band founded in 1998.
