Andrew Ford Feat. Lauren Evans [2022] - More Love (Extended Version) [IAAJ Records]

Amazon and Apple are listing this extended version of "More Love" by Andrew Ford featuring Lauren Evans with a release date of 23 Apr but it is not yet available on Spotify at time of posting but has been uploaded on Andrew Ford's YouTube channel on 27 Apr. (UPDATE now posted from Spotify)

You may recall the original version from it's release last year (20 Jan 2021). It was one of Roger Williams' and Steve Aggasild's picks of the year (Steve gave me the nod on it so thanks to him) so I'm sure they at least will be delighted that there is a now an 5:45 minute extended version versus the 4:20 original.

Whilst Lauren Evans has been given a billing for her background vocals, Lynne Fiddmont is also on backing vocals. Shades of Stevie Wonder in parts methinks?

The original is also included for comparison as I'm not sure if it's just extended or also an updated version?

Aroe Phoenix [2022] - Space+Space [Self Released]

A quirky neo soul tune "Space+Space" released today by Aroe Phoenix (Talbot) from L.A. which appears to be only her fifth single since 2019. She released a debut EP "8:18" in 2020 followed by "Alba" in 2021.

Listening to one of here earlier singles "Upside Down" she comes across pretty jazzy sounding like her influences could well be Erykah Badu.

Jennifer Holliday [2022] - So in Love [Self Released] NEW VIDEO

Jennifer Holliday is renown for big ballads since her debut with "And I'm Telling You I'm Not Going" from 'Dreamgirls' which was a #1 US R&B hit in 1982 for which she also won a Grammy.

She is back with a new single "So In Love" released on 2 Feb 2022 which is another classy big ballad, which somehow sounds familiar but is an original song.

She has released a new video for the song which has premiered on YouTube today (29 Apr 2022).

Melba Moore [2022] - Imagine [Orpheus Enterprises] (Full Album)

A new album from Melba Moore, "Imagine" (released today), which includes her UK Soul Chart topping single "So In Love" but sadly not her excellent collaboration with Carmichael Musiclover "Company".

The clear standout of the new songs is the jazzy stepper  "Take Her Picture Down" which sounds very familiar, any ideas what this could be similar too? (UPDATE it's just dawned on me that it's similar to McFadden & Whitehead's "I've Been Pushed Aside" recently sampled by Everis on his "What U Doin' 2 Me"). However, it seems she has chosen to go with "Take Me Away" as the next single which I believe is being released next Friday (6 May 2022).

There are several tracks with the same title as well know songs (i.e. "Free", "Forever", "Imagine", "Can't Stop,The Rain", "Joy & Pain") but they are not covers they are original songs.

Nicole Henry [2022] - Midnight At The Oasis (Radio Edit) [Banister Records]

A track taken from Nicole Henry's recent album "Time To Love Again" has been given a radio edit (4:21 v 4:40) and released as a single today.

The song, "Midnight At The Oasis", is of course a cover of folk/blues singer Maria Muldaur's 1974 #6 Billboard Hot 100 hit taken from her 1973 self-titled album. It has been covered many times including  by The Brand New Heavies in 1994. The only other notable versions of interest to soulies may be Wayne Henderson (1978) and Bob James & Kirk Whalum (1996).

I've dug up a video of The Brand New Heavies performing the song live with N'Dea Davenport on lead. There was an original promo video but it was rather grainy, although the sound is fine, probably copied from a VHS tape as there is an MTV logo in bottom right corner?

Also included is a video for "Your Smiling Face", a track from her latest album.
