Sugar Rainbow & Al Lindsey [2022] - Something Special [Pulsating Music]

UK based singer/songwriter Sugar Rainbow has collaborated with Detroit's Al Lindsey on a lovely smooth soul song "Something Special" set for release on 8 Dec '22.

Al Lindsey was born in a small town Gordonsville, VA. He moved to Detroit at the age of eleven. He found a voice for singing at the age of twelve and as a young lad at the age of fourteen he was to sing lead in the adult church choir. Al was performing in nightclubs at the tender age of sixteen. 

As a Detroiter it is only reasonable he would be influenced by the sounds of Motown, with David Ruffin and Marvin Gaye as his childhood idols.  Back in the day, Al was to perform with the current Four Top Lawrence Payton Jr prior to pursuing a solo career.  His first recording was a single "Always On My Mind" in 1989, he has now recorded five albums "Caught" (2005), "So In Love" (2007), "Can You Handle This?" (2011), "Love You More" (2016) and "Versatility" (2018). His last collaboration was with Detroiter Laura Rain on "Claim It" in April 2021.

Sugar Rainbow is of Apache mixed heritage and grew up in Holland. She is known for her five-octave soprano range. On her musical journey she has lived and worked in Holland, Belgium, France, Spain, Africa, USA, and England as a singer/songwriter.

In her late teens she was part of duo Sugar & Spice with a keyboard player. She then set up a recording studio in her spare room at her home in Holland and recorded her first two albums "Magic Touch" and "Awareness" along with an EP. She then moved to South Africa where the albums were well received.

When she returned to England she signed up with a production company specialising in pop/rock music and recorded another album and then hooked up with a sound engineer who was working for the Spice Girls and recorded another two albums "Invisible Life" and "Independent Dreams".  She was invited to sing lead in a band with some great musicians. A few years later they decided to form their own 7-piece band called Soul Dimension singing funky party songs and entertaining at various functions.

Will Wheaton [2022] - The Lady In My Life [Platinum Bass Records]

This forthcoming single from Will Wheaton dropped in the inbox this afternoon and, to be honest, I wasn't expecting too much as it's a cover of Michael Jackson's "Lady In My Life" written by Rod Temperton included on the "Thriller" album (which has been reissued in a 40th Anniversary edition on Friday), it has never been released as a single. In fact only last week another version cropped up on the Bemaji Tillman "Algorhythms" album.

How glad I am that I gave it a listen as this is a classy rendition with shades of Will Downing in his tone, so it may not surprise you to learn that he has written songs for Downing as well as Tevin Campbell, EWF, Anastacia. Dare I say it, I prefer this version to the MJ original.

Will was born in Mississippi and raised in Los Angeles and has a background in gospel. In 1992 he won Dick Clark's USA Music Challenge talent contest and received an MCA recording contract. He has released two albums "Consenting Adultz" (1998) and "Old School Soul" (2005) and has worked extensively as a backing vocalist for the likes of Michael Bolton, Natalie Cole, Coolio, Celine Dion, Michael Jackson, Quincy Jones, Luis Miguel, Montel Jordon, Kenny Loggins, Whitney Houston, Diana Ross, Chaka Khan, and Rod Stewart and this year has featured on Michael Bublé's current album "Higher".

The single will be available on all platforms on Monday (21 Nov '22).

Richie Goods & Chien Chien Lu Feat. Jamison Ross [2022] - Someday We'll All Be Free (Radio Edit) [Richman Music]

Two words .. pure class! Pittsburgh bassist Richie Goods and in-demand vibes and marimba percussionist Chien Chien Lu collaborate on a forthcoming album "Connected" which is due on 13 Jan 2023. 

The third single from the album is a cover of Donny Hathaway's classic "Someday We'll All Be Free" featuring none other than jazz drummer and vocalist Jamison Ross.

The album will include contributions from drummer Allan Mednard (drums), Miki Hayama (keys) and Quintin Zoto (guitar) with special guests vocalists Sy Smith, Jamison Ross and Pastor Dr. Adolfus Lacey, drummers Lil John Roberts and David Frazier Jr, percussionist Danny Sadownick, keyboardist BIGYUKI, Shedrick Mitchell on organ and piano, Brett Williams on keys and Rhodes and Mike King on Rhodes and organ.

Richie Goods is the youngest person ever inducted into the Pittsburgh Jazz Hall of Fame. He moved to NYC after graduating from the prestigious jazz program at Berklee College of Music, where he studied under jazz legends Ron Carter and Ray Brown. 

His resume includes performing with artists ranging from the Headhunters, Stanley Turrentine, Lenny White, Milt Jackson, Manhattan Transfer, Walter Beasley, Brian McKnight, DJ Jazzy Jeff & the Fresh Prince, Whitney Houston and Christina Aguilera and includes Grammy award-winning and platinum albums of Alicia Keys and Common and has recently toured with Grammy-winning trumpeter, Chris Botti.
