Mary Cross [2020/21] - Promise / In Love There's A Risk [Self Released]

A double helping of Mary Cross. I've already posted both these tracks but she has since released a new video for 'Promise'. It's a 'slow burner'. I wasn't sure about it when I first heard it as I was comparing it with her stunning debut 'In Love There's A Risk' and I still don't think it matches that standard, but it has grown on me and it's a bit unfair to compare as these are both standout tracks 'out of the blocks' as her first two releases.

Promise

It may be my ears(?) but I think the sound quality on this video is poor. Also, note that the first 1:40 is a clip from 'In Love There's A Risk' before 'Promise' starts.

In Love There's A Risk

Matthew Alec & The Soul Electric Feat. Brian Woods [2021] - Baby You Got Me [Cleveland Time]

New single (released 5 Feb 2021) from the debut album 'Cleveland Time' from Cleveland based soul/jazz/funk fusion outfit Matthew Alec & The Soul Electric.

Lion Babe [2021] - Native New Yorker [Self Released]

A (Sandy) Linzer & (Danny) Randell song which was a huge disco hit in 1977 for Odyssey (the first of their 5 UK Top 10 hits) and later covered by Frankie Valli, Esther Phillips, Black Box and others.  This is an updated 2021 version (released 5 Feb 2021) from Lion Babe who are Jillian Hervey and producer Lucas Goodman (a.k.a. Astro Raw).

Move On Up

They also covered Curtis Mayfield's classic 'Move On Up' in 2015.  Not one for the 'purists' as it has an R&B/Jungle feel about it!

Vladimir Cetkar [2021] - I Remember

Macedonian dance from Vladimir Cetkar (an unlikley name for a soul singer, blue-eyed or otherwise) delivers a dance track with very strong Chic influences - sounds like a riff from Chic's 'I Want Your Love' to my ears compare 2:40 with Chic below about 2:50 in.

Not my 'cup of tea', lightweight neo disco, but is the sort of track that seems to do well on UK Soul chart.

Chic [1978] - I Want Your Love [Atlantic]

Heavenly

Here's a better track he relased in 2014, very George Benson influenced?

Jason Peterson DeLaire Feat. Oleta Adams, Rockie Robbins & Jarrod Lawson [2021] - Love Can Heal The World [Celebration]

Inspired by the civil and racially charged events in the Minneapolis area in summer 2020, Minneapolis artist Jason Peterson DeLaire collaboated with Jarrod Lawson, Oleta Adams and Rockie Robbin to write 'Love Can Heal the World' which was released 5 Feb 2021.

Max Ribner [2021] - 1st Language [1st Language Music]

A new album is due on 4 Mar 2021 from Max Ribner titled '1st Language'.  Ribner is a jazz Flugelhorn and trumpeter from Portland, Oregon.

One of the tracks from the album, 'Not Free', has been released to promo the album. It's a message song, I guess released to celebrate Black History month.

It is fusion of African rhythms, jazz, funk, soul and gospel. Very soulful vocals and incredibly well produced, especially considering it was recorded during lockdown! Don't sleep on this as it's one of the best releases around, this is true art - real music with true meaning.

The video was filmed in Accra, the capital of Ghana and Portland,

Kaylow [2021] - 24 Hours [Self Released]

A mellow neo soul ballad (in a similar vein to the previous post for SonE Music Feat. J. Martin) from Kaylow who I 'think' is a South African artist. Released 29 Jan 2021.  I can't find any other material so, would guess this may be his debut.

SonE Music Feat. J. Martin [2021] - How It Feels [SonE Music]

A mellow neo soul ballad from SonE Music featuring J. Martin released 5 Feb 2021.

Cecily Wilborn [2021] - Stages of Love [Self Released]

Cecily Wilborn is from Marianna, Arkansas. She auditioned for The Voice in 2019. This is her debut album released 7 Feb 2021.  It's an album intended to be played from start to finish.  It is mainly ballads, but includes a bonus uptempo track 'Tonight' which, for me, is the pick of the album.

Sebb Junior [2021] - Together Alone [Reel People]

French producer Sebb Junior released a new 5 track EP 'Together Alone' on 29 Jan 2021.  He collaborates with Eric Roberson, Paula, Muhsinah, Karmina Dai and Reel People's Mike Patto. Here's a couple of the top tracks.
