MS1 Project feat. Daneik Ashley [2024] - Passion [Self Released]

The Harrison Brothers, Mike 'DJ Blue' and George 'GEO', under their MS1 Project moniker, have released their latest offering "Passion" featuring New York vocalist Daneik Ashley on Bandcamp today. It will be available on the main platforms next Friday (15 Mar)

It's a lovely mid-tempo soul jazz song (perhaps their best yet?) which Ms Ashley's sensuous vocals floats over beautifully. 

The song was written and produced by the Harrisons with contributions from their long time collaborator Terrell 'Bishop' Beane and Artem Jazz providing the cool saxophone sections.

J.Period [2024] - J.PERIOD Presents...Story To Tell (Chapter Two) [RBC Records / BMG] (Full EP)

DJ/producer J.Period (Joel Astman) from Brooklyn, NYC, has released a 7 track mixtape "J.PERIOD Presents...Story To Tell (Chapter Two)" which actually only really contains 5 tracks if you exclude intro and outro. 

The track that piqued interest is "Cut This Line" feat. Joss Stone and Canadian rapper Kardinal Offishall (Jason Drew Harrow).

J.Period has been releasing mixtapes since the early noughties.

Chioma [2024] - What About Me [Ozone creations]

Chioma Ogbonnaya is a relatively new artist, whom we can find very little about. She has released a new neo soul ballad, "What About Me",  that appears be her seventh single since her first in 2020. 

There is another artist named Chioma Jesus who's material tends to be combined on DSP but we think is a different artist.

Hubert Eaves III [2024] - Drops, Vol. 1 [Droppings] (Full Album)

Another half member of a duo, Hubert Eaves III, who with James 'D Train' Williams were D-Train in the 80s, has a new album, "Drops, Vol. 1" which he has dedicated to his late father (R.I.P. 2021).

The initial standout is "Jah (Made Her For Me)" and also includes his version of Thelonius Monk's jazz standard "Round Midnight".

Keyboardist Eaves began in the 70s working as a session musician with Mtume. He released a debut album "Esoteric Funk" in 1977 and of course went on to have several hits with D-Train in the 80s.

Tyler Daley [2024] - Son Of Zeus [Self Released] (Full EP)

From the title of his first solo  EP, "Son Of Zeus", you may have guessed, if you didn't already know, that Tyler Daley is best know for being one half of Manchester's Children Of Zeus. who have been rather quiet since their 2021 album "Balance".

Daley, previously know as Hoodman, describes the EP as "that soulful Zeus sound, a blend of dusty low-fi soul, hip hop and R&B for the sophisticated blunt heads and vibe seekers".

Two of the seven tracks have already been released as singles, "These Cards" (Oct '23) and "All I Need" (Nov '23) (which has also had two subsequent remixes).

The EP is for the neo/future soul brigade with perhaps only a few tracks having wider appeal, "Been Trying",  "Small Circles" and "When You're Lonely" being our choices.

Tash [2024] - The Therapist [Hitmakers Entertainment]

Sydney's Tash (Natasha Palmer) with her third, and for us the best, single of the year already called "Therapist". 

She is quite prolific having released eight singles in 2023. To our reckoning that's now nearly 50 singles in total since she emerged in 2017 along with an album in 2020.
