Technical Problem

You may have noticed that there are not many posts today. This is due to a technical problem with blogger which is not allowing me to post images.

Hopefully it is a short-term issue and normal service will be resumed tomorrow.

I have a horrible feeling that perhaps I've exceeded my quota, which will be a pain as I'll have to delete images from older posts! Although there is not supposed to be a limit!

Louis Baker [2021] - Brighter Day [Self Released]

The second single from New Zealand's blue-eyed soulster, Louis Baker's sophomore album "Love Levitates" due 17 Jun 2021. His debut album "Open" was released in 2019.

The new single 'Brighter Day' (released 20 May 2021) is reminiscent of Paul Weller / The Style Council 80s material.

The song is a tribute to his grandfather, who he never met, who was injured in WW II.

Tyler Long [2021] - Mixtape 1 [Self Released]

Digging through the new releases on BandCamp, trying to find some good new material to post, I came across a nice jazz/funk instrumental "Saturn's Return" by Tyler Long (from High Point NC), so rather than just post the single track I've posted the full album, which are all instrumentals.

The album was recorded in Nov 2019 but only just released 24 May 2021.

Tyler Long is on keyboard, beats, synths, synth bass, percussion with Jon Hallman on guitars, and percussion.

Dark Roast [2021] - Dark Shades Hiding Sharp Eyes / Stuff I Need To Say [Jazzland Recordings]

This one will make the purists wince, but it does have all the right ingredients but, as Eric Morecombe would have said, 'not necessarily in the right order!

Neo Northern Soul from Oslo, which to my ears is let down by the blue-eyed vocals, not that they are bad, they just aren't soulful, which transforms it into a pop tune. The 'wally' dancing in the video doesn't help it's cause either, which I assume are supposed to be 'tongue in cheek' as it's 'dad dancing' by youngsters, otherwise it just reinforces the stereotype that 'White Men Can't Dance'!

They have a new album (their second) "Going Back, Moving Up!" dropping tomorrow (28 May 2021) and have released a video for one of the tracks from it "Stuff I Need To Say". It's more of a funky track which reminds me a bit of Jamiroquai.

"Dark Shades Hiding Sharp Eyes" appears to be the lead single from the album.
