Neo Soul New Releases 2021-11-19

A feature started last week as there simply isn't enough time to post all these individually.

It's a playlist collated from a bigger playlist of new releases in the last week and narrowed down to anything that sounds reasonable on first listen so you can judge for yourself. Some may be a bit hit and miss as judged only from 30 second samples.

There are a few that have been around a week or two but in the main most were released yesterday or in the last week.

Adele [2021] - 30 [Sony] (Full Album)

I am almost certain that this post will attract 'rolled eyes' and condescending attitudes from the die-hards, but to be perfectly honest I don't care as I listen to music without prejudice. It seems ridiculous to me that so-called soul listeners will probably ignore this album.  It is currently #1 on the Amazon R&B Hot New Releases.

I don't quite understand those who are happy to listen to tracks by unknown Sade sound-a-like, auto-tuned, white singers and claim that it is 'neo soul' yet knock established artists just for the fact that they are. 

So I'm going to post the new album by one of the biggest talents ever produced in the UK ... yes Adele (Adkins). Yes there are some pop tunes on the album but surely you cannot deny that at least these three tracks are soulful "My Little Love", "Cry Your Heart Out" and "Love Is A Game". Another respected 'soulie' also likes "All Night Parking" and "To Be Loved".

In my view if "Cry Your Heart Out "was 'discovered' on a 60s or 70s vinyl 45 by an unknown artist it would be hailed as a one of the biggest 'discoveries' in years on the rare soul scene!

All this 'elitist' nonsense needs to stop, just listen without prejudice. The same people refuse to play Silk Sonic which for me is undoubtedly one of the best albums of the year.

Brother Zulu Feat. Blu [2021] - Full Time [Self Released]

Brother Zulu are a five piece future soul band from London consisting of Alex Hillman, Lawrence Ajadi, Max Tuohy, Noah Nelson and Youssef Ibrahim and feature Blu on their latest single "Full Time" released 29 Oct 2021.

They debuted in 2016 with a single "Alcool" and the latest single is around their tenth to date and they are yet to release an EP or album.

Ash Leone [2021] - Residue [TRST. RCRDS]

Ash Leone is  another relatively new singer/songwriter born in Philadelphia but now calling Nashville, TN her home.

She debuted with first self-written single "Physical" in Nov 2019 and released her tenth single "Residue" on 19 Nov 2021, a soulful R&B tune.

Tash [2021] - Now I Don't [Hitmakers Entertainment]

Tash (Natasha Palmer) is from Sydney, Australia now living in L.A. She has released a phenomenal 32 singles/EPs and an album since debuting in 2017 but has a surprisingly low profile as I can't find much else about her. Apparently she was discovered singing acoustic covers on Instagram by multi-platinum selling producer/songwriter Mark J Feist.

Her latest single "Now I' Don't" was released on 19 Nov 2021 which is a pleasant blue-eyed neo soul outing which she co-wrote with Feist.

Alex Isley & Jack Dine Feat. Robert Glasper [2021] - Still Wonder [Self Released]

Alex Isley (daughter of Isley Brother Ernie) is still riding high on UK soul charts with her cover of Patrice Rushen's "Remind Me" with Butcher Brown from the end of September but she has been pretty active since that single having released collaborations with serpentwithfeet on 5 Nov and also with Robert Glasper et al in Oct.

She released a new single with long time collaborator Jack Dine "Still Wonder" on 19 Nov 2021 which also features Robert Glasper..
