I really live th new EP 'Cold Wind' and it seems that currently it is also getting the most views. So I've started listening to some of her earlier material. 

This is the second single taken from her 2017 EP 'After All'. This has a haunting quality.

Zieme [2021] - Kiss Of Life [Ice Touring]

A debut album (which he has classed as an EP but it has 11 tracks) 'Butter Smooth' released 12 Feb 2021 produced by Ice T. He is the nephew of members of Force MD's (Steven & Rodney Lundy).

The project is a cover album of mainly 70s sweet soul classics by the likes of The Stylistics (#1), New Rotary Connection (#2),The Intruders (#3), Harold Melvin & The Blue Notes (#4), Soul Generation (#6), Main Ingredient (#9), The Delfonics (#11) and and also Kate Bush (#5), Jordan Knight (#7), Keith Sweat (#10).

 

The featured track is a cover of Sade's 'Kiss Of Life' (#8).

A new release (5 Feb 2021) with a retro feel. It sounds like it could almost be a mid 70s to early 80s track ... and dare I say it 'could' get plays on Northern Soul dance floors as it fits right in with 70s style of NS dancers, but probably won't as it's not on vinyl as far as I'm aware! So it will likely get broken on modern scene and some time in future some 'enterprising' NS DJ wil get a carver made for his 'exclusive'!

I can find no info on Nikki Gee or the others except that they released a single last year which is nothing like this.

Jerome Kyles is a professor at Berklee College Of Music in Boston, MA and is a minister.

Acantha Lang [2021] - Lois Lang [Self Released]

I posted a 'promo' live version of this a few weeks ago before it was officially released on 10 Feb 2021.  

This is her second single and is written about, and dedicated to, her mother Lois Lang. She says this about it:

"It tells the story of her growing up in New Orleans, a young girl living during segregation, bringing up 4 kids as a single mother, losing everything in 3 major Hurricanes (including Hurricane Katrina)...plus her name sounds like Superman’s girlfriend ‘Lois Lane’ (which I reference in the song)."

Acantha was born and raised in New Orleans, moved to New York where she headlined her own blues show in Harlem, but now lives in London. 

This song oozes quality and has an old school southern soul vibe. It will definately feature in the next installment of 'Best Of 2021'.

UPDATE:

Someone has left a comment informing me that this was in fact released in 2016 on an album by Kejam titled 'Majek' featuring Cleveland Jones. It would appear that the album was only released in Japan on P-Vine. It was also due to feature on an EP called 'Rebirth' but I can find no trace of the EP so perhaps it was never issued? Whether the current release is a reissue or a re-recording I don't known. There is a 'snippet' of the Kejam release on SoundCloud which sounds very similar.
