Having begun her career singing with a band in the middle east (UAE), ThisisClarissaUK (Claire Louise Morales) moved to Chicago to start a solo career.

Mathien & semi-cycle feat. Jeff Skigh [2024] - Fantasy (I want it) [Wurlitzer Crowley Recordings]

Chicago based, genre fluid, Mathien, is producer Chris Mathien who has released two singles this month. The first being the jazz-funk inspired "Fantasy (I want it)" featuring semi-cycle (Kris Hansen) and Jeff Skigh (Jeffrey Thomas).

The second on 15 May is "Calm Waters" feat. Rotterdam drummer, producer DESH (Nadesh Ligthart).

Sharin Attamimi [2024] - Nothing's Wrong? [AORTAHMUSIC]

One of the many highlights from Godfrey Fletcher's Neo2soul podcast we posted last week comes from Sharin Attamimi with "Nothing's Wrong?" which warrants and deserves it's own post, especially now that a music video for it is available this week. A superbly soulful neo soul song with a lovely jazzy undertone.

Sharin Attamimi is a classically trained pianist born in Indonesia with roots in Yemen and raised in Perth, Australia. She's released 16 singles and a full album since emerging in 2020.

Last year she was a contestant on Australian Idol and reached the last 24. Her audition was a rendition of Silk Sonic's "Leave The Door Open" (clip below). 

Not only is she a great singer but also holds a degree in Neuroscience.

Honey Blu [2024] - Through [Niara Entertainment]

Honey Blu (Aureeyahn Edmundson) is a Lady MC, singer/songwriter from L.A. Music is in her blood as she is the great granddaughter of Al Wilson ("Show And Tell", "La La Peace Song" etc.).

She picked up the mic aged 6 recording herself on a karaoke machine and has been involved in the performing arts since a child, having also been trained in dance and acting.

Since commencing her recording career in Feb '21 she's released six singles and two albums. Her latest single is "Through".

Nic Hanson [2024] - Lola [Vokall Records]

Brooklyn, NYC, based, Philadelphian blue-eyed soul singer Nic Hanson has been on the scene since 2016.  We've not come across his music before which is surprising when you consider that he has six songs on Spotify that have received in excess of 1m streams, "Keep The Faith" (2017) has just shy of 20m!

His latest single "Lola" (which just happens to be the name of our 4 yr old Sheltie) was released on Friday (17 May) and is already high on Amazon Hot New Releases (#5 last night).

It has a bit of an 80s groove but also a hint of Marvin Gaye (Inner City Blues in places perhaps?)
