Erica LeShai [2021] - The Love Movement [Self Released]

The first release from Erica LeShai (an independent artist from L.A.) since her single "Lovism" with Killer Mike in Feb 2021. Her latest offering is a five track EP "The Love Movement" set loose on Sunday (12 Sep 2021).

It's a pretty mellow affair with the standout track, for me, being "Healer" featuring Vincent Berry II. The lead track "Time Off Remix" features Raheem DeVaughn. "Bless Me" is also quite a nice track.

Although it doesn't come up on the major DSP's, her debut album appears to be "Glass Ceilings" from July 2012, which is still available via BandCamp. I had a quick skim through, as you do for fear of missing anything, and it's a pretty good album which I may post at a future date. Only material from 2019 appears to be available on the majors.

Krissyleighhhh - [2021] - Heal and Evolve [Self Released] (Full EP)

"Heal and Evolve" is a debut (8 track) EP by an artist calling herself Krissyleighhhh (Kristen Milton from Houston, TX) released on 11 Sep 2021. Two singles were released a couple of weeks ago from it, "Shed My Pain" on 26 Aug and "Vultures" on 27 Aug.

The EP may appeal to those those who like 'future soul'. I think "Vultures" and "Manifested Me" are the top tracks. "Vultures" uses that recurring intro sample that keeps cropping up on many tunes!

James Vickery with Yung Baby Tate [2021] - Hourglass [TH3RD BRAIN]

Up and coming blue-eyed soulster James Vickery from South London released his excellent debut album "Songs That Make You Feel" on 16 Jul 2021. It contains a track titled "Hour Glass" which he also released as a single in April. 

He's just re-recorded it with the assistance of Yung Baby Tate (aka Tate Sequoya Farris) for his latest single (released 2 Sep 2021). The female vocals add a different aspect to the original version.

I found an interesting documentary about his life on his YouTube channel (below). He's deaf in his left ear after a life-saving operation to remove a tumour when he was 7.

Pablo Eskobear [2021] - Pool Parties [Stereofox] (Full EP)

Pablo Eskobear (Andrew Kunkel) is a beat maker from Grand Rapids, MI, who debuted last year releasing an album ("Regurgitated Rhythms") and four singles prior to his latest EP "Pool Parties" which includes his two last singles "Pool Parties" (17 Aug) and "Comin' To Steal Your Lunch" (31 Aug).

His name (presumably) relates to a true story about a black bear being found dead from an overdose of cocaine in Georgia's Chatanooga National Forrest in Nov 1985 after eating from 75lbs of cocaine which had been dropped from a plane by drug smugglers. The bear was named Pablo Esco-bear, a play on the name of the renown drugs baron Pablo Escobar (did you see the recent documentary BBC "Killing Escobar" a few months ago? If not it's still on iPlayer and well worth a watch. It's about a Scottish mercenary hired to assassinate Escobar in the early 90s). A man was also found dead on a driveway. He was a drug smuggler who had jumped from a plane but his parachute didn't open. The story is being made into a movie directed by Elizabeth Banks. Full story here.

Back to the music. His new five track EP "Pool Parties" dropped today (14 Sep 2021). It's a mash-up of old school (mainly lowriders/sweet soul) samples put to beats.

I'd love to know what the original songs are. If anyone knows please leave a comment.

UPDATE It has just dawned in me what "Tired Of Being Blue" samples and it's a track I've previously featured on the blog Tut Sutton "No Appreciation" ... I knew I knew it but the hard disc in my head has been spinning since I posted this! It has only just been reissued by Hit And Run!

Allen Stone [2021] - Is This Love [ATO Records]

Allen Stone is a blue-eyed soul singer from Chewelah, Washington. His latest single is a stripped back, soulful cover of Bob Marley & The Wailers' 1978 classic "Is The Love" which is taken from his forthcoming, fifth, album "Apart" due for release on 12 Nov 2021. The single was pre-released from the album on 31 Aug which I think is an interesting interpretation of the song.

His first album "Last To Speak" was released in 2009.
