Michon Young [2024] - Love Is My Lane [Self Released] (Full Album)

Since her last album "#mysweetness" almost exactly a year ago on 28 Apr '23', Michon Young has released two singles. The first a cover of the Glady Knight & The Pips classic "Neither One Of Us" with Frank MComb (Jun '23) and the other "Bounce Back" (19 Jan '24). 

The latter is included on her new album "Love Is My Lane" and a music video is included below. Frank McComb features on the standout track "You Give Me a Purpose". Other guest appearances come from Chicago smooth jazz saxophonist Audley Reid (now resident in Vegas) and  Marvin Winans on the closing track "The Promise Pt. 2". Michon began her career with Marvin Winans as his backing singer and sang on his debut album "Alone but Not Alone" (2007).

We think that the new album is her best for a while with several standouts. As well as "You Give Me a Purpose" with Frank MComb we'd highlight "Pull" and "Lovely" as our go to tracks but to be fair we could choose several other tracks as the whole album can be played from start to finish without disappointment.

This album stands alongside some of the best of the year so far i.e. Sy Smith, Ricky Jones, TMF and others we highlighted at the beginning of the month "SoulStrutter top 15 Albums of 2024" as we consider it the best album of April for sure.

Susan Carol [2024] - Karma [Def Jam Recordings]

Susan Carol (Susan Lewis from L.A.) may not be a name that you're particularly familiar with but has featured with BJ The Chicago Kid ("Snowflakes" 2021), Full Crate ("Good To U" (2021), "Magnetic" on "In Full Honesty" 2020) and Kenyon Dixon ("Here" on "Closer" 2022) amongst many others going back to 2019. 

She has also been building up her own catalogue releasing a full album "Alchemy" in 2016 and a four track EP "Organic" in 2020 along with a handful of singles. We featured her single "Run Me My Money" in Jul 2022 which is a neo soul, bluesy/jazz song on which she sounds vocally similar to Jazmine Sullivan. 

Since then she featured on P.J.Morton's "Good Morning" in Feb '23. for which she won a Grammy for Best Traditional R&B Performance at the 66th Annual GRAMMY Awards in Feb '24.

Her latest single is "Karma" released today and is one of the best this week.

Benjamin Fro [2024] - Moonlight [Vokall Records] (Full EP)

We latently posted the first single, "Work It Out", from this new EP, "Moonlight", by Benjamin Fro in Feb even though it was released on 1 Dec '23.

Another single, "Hardest Part", was pre-released from the five track EP on 1 Mar. The two singles released to date are probably the strongest tracks.

Fro is a singer/rapper from Amsterdam who classes Gil Scott-Heron, Anderson .Paak and The Roots as some of his influences.  Rotterdam singer Gita Buhari features on "Work It Out".

Kiki Rowe [2024] - Knew Me [Self Released]

Mississauga, Ontario native Kiki Rowe (Keandra Shan Lal) took a year off after high school to write original songs in a makeshift home studio, uploading them to SoundCloud and YouTube. She got her break attending a music conference in Atlanta showcasing her music, leading to collaborations with the likes of DJ Mustard, Nineteen85, and Preme.

She studied classical piano at Toronto’s Royal Conservatory of Music and released a debut self-titled album in 2014 but her breakout hit came in 2016 with "Trust Issues" produced by DJ Mustard.

Her latest single is "Knew Me" (11 Apr).

Abrina [2024] - Summer Rain [Dazzle Records]

San Diego born, Mexican-American singer, songwriter, actess Abrina (Ashley Guaderrama) has now been on the music scene for ten years debuting in 2014 with "Blowin". 

Her latest single "Summer Rain" is the second this year following "Yourz" in Feb.
