Zaimie [2023] - Hidden Highs [Splash Music] PROMO

Zaidi Kiggundu (Ziggy Funk) and Jamie McShane met at a music festival in 2016 and began a collaboration naming themselves Zaimie.

They are working on a debut album "Fortuitous" (scheduled for release in Jul '23) and are releasing their first single "Hidden Heights" on 16 Jun '23 for Splash Music Productions. It harps back the the Brit/Jazz Funk days.

The album promises to be a fusion of funk, jazz and soul with a contemporary touch.

Alohai [2023] - 2018 [Self Released] (Full EP)

Another new artist to us is Alohai who is Brianna Vaccaro from Chicago (although her Twitter account states Atlanta but is from 2011). She released her fifth EP "2018" since emerging in, coincidentally?,  2018.

It's a strong set without being able to choose a clear standout, with all tracks marked explicit which may limit which ones receive radio airplay.

The opening track "Rockin My Baby" sounds familiar (as does the second "Love Yourself") so may be using one of those library backing tracks but we can't place who else has used it ... answers on a postcard and who knows a Blue Peter badge may arrive.

ADIV feat. India Shawn [2023] - Perfect Time [84 Projects]

New Yorker ADIV (Alexander Duncan IV) is a new artist to us. For the last 15 years he's been predominantly a songwriter, writing for artists from Britney Spears to SZA. In 2020/21 he took the plunge to release his own  music as an artist in his own right.

His new single, "Perfect Time", is released today featuring India Shawn (no stranger to these pages) and is his sixth single along with a full album in 2021.

Kubla [2023] - Close To The Sun [Self Released] (Full Album)

When we posted Canadian blue-eyed soul singer Kubla's (Kiaran McMillan from Ontario) last single "Losing Faith" last month we speculated that an album may be in the pipeline as he'd released four singles already this year. His debut album "Close To The Sun" was released on Friday. 

All nine of his singles since Dec '21 are included (four of which we have posted "Move On" (Jan '22), "Running Loose" (Feb '23), "LadyLove" (Apr '23) And "Losing Faith" (May '23)) leaving two new songs, "Icarus" and "GTC (live from my stoop)" (video below).

Jerald Daemyon & The Motorsoul Collective [2023] - Not on the Outside [Daetyme Music] - Not on the Outside

Jerald Daemyon is an electric violinist from Detroit. He released his debut album "Thinking About You" in 1996 and followed it with "The Jerald Daemyon Group" in 2001.  We found an interview with him in 2014 promoting a new album which we can't find anywhere. A track from it with Stacy Brooks titled "So Into You" was played and sounded pretty good, so whether or not the album was release we don't know.

Much of his material is cover versions as is the case with his new single with "Not on the Outside" The Motorsoul Collective which is an alternate, more  uptempo, version of The Moments 1968 song written by Larry Roberts and Sylvia Robinson who also recorded the song in 1973. It was released back on 2 May and is starting to get airplay.

Other versions include an instrumental version by Willie & The Mighty Magnificents (1969), Carolyn Franklin (1970), Eddie Kendricks (1972), Linda Jones (1972), Positive Express (1982), Oran Juice Jones (1987), Alyson William (1989), Sly, Slick & Wicked (1999), Noriega & The Vatones (2021) and possibly others. If you only listen to one make it Linda Jones' phenomenal deep version!

B.Marie [2023] - Is It So [Self Released]

The new single from B. Marie, "Is It So" opens up with a sample that you will be familiar with. On face value it looks like a debut release but there are other artists with the same/similar name so we can't be certain.

As it's only released today it's not appearing yet on the digital platforms except Amazon (link on image below). 

We think this will be big in neo soul circles so watch DJs jump on this but you know where you heard it first so don't be duped by their 'first play' nonsense!
