Conya Doss [2021] - Through Rose-Colored Glasses [Self Released] (Full Album)

The long-awaited new album from the 'Queen of Indie Soul' Conya Doss was released today (13 Jun 2021). It's her ninth studio album and first since "Clear" in 2018.

As a bonus I found an interview she held with her indie soul brother Eric Roberson from Jan 2020. Eric features on one of the tracks on the album ("It Ain't Easy") which I posted a couple of days ago and also has a great new single out "Lessons". An interesting statement she made in the interview was that she was at school with Frank McComb.

The track that seems to be getting most airplay is "Come Get This Love" but there is not a bad track on the album which I'm sure will be a candidate, by the end of the year, for album of the year.

The Dirty Dozen - The Best Of 2021... Part 19 (Jun 2021 Wk 23) Spotify Playlist

My selection of the best releases this week (Jun 2021 Wk 23).

Not many covers, reissues, unreleased tracks available digitally this week as most are only available on vinyl and aren't on Spotify, so I've included the only one that's on Spotify in this week's main Dirty Dozen (i.e. Chuck Brown & The Soul Searchers' terrific cover of Johnny 'Guitar' Watson). There won't be a separate Spotify playlist for covers etc. this week, but I may put together one from YouTube.

This week's SoulStrutter Selection of the Week was a choice between Keni Myles and Derrick Senna, James Senna & Senco and there's not much between them but I've gone with the latter only because I don't think it's had much/any exposure as yet and it deserves more.

Amea [2021] - For The Love [Self Released]

New single released 4 Jun 2021, a few days before the album "The Learning Tree II" was released (10 Jun 2021). The album sounds like one of those auto-tuned R&B albums, and the single is probably the only soul related track.

Amea is from Texas and debuted in 2016 with a single called "VayCay". She's released around ten singles, including a three track EP. "The Learning Tree II" is her debut album.

Kelly Erez [2021] - Clear My Name (Remix EP) [Self Released] (Full EP)

I thought I recognised  the face, she appeared on the the only episode I watched of the TV show hosted by Paddy McGuiness, "I Can See Your Voice", on which there are good and bad singers and contestants have to choose a good one at the end to win £10k.

She is from East London and also works as a life coach and a voice coach and released her debut album "Come To Me" in 2012 which received good reviews including by Blues & Soul magazine.

The original EP titled "Clear My Name" was released in 2018. This remix version takes four of the five tracks and gives them a fresh mix, with "Run The Water", the best track, receiving four different mixes. The Underground Soul Collective Mix lifts the tempo 40% from 80 BPM to 113BPM, the other three mixes remain at 80 BPM.

Charmaine X [2021] - Talk To Me [Self Released]

Following on from her EP "Introducing" released in Jan2021, Charmaine X,  from Birmingham (UK)  releases two mixes of "Talk To Me" on 12 Jun 2021. Both good mixes, but the more uptempo Remix edges it for me.

Although the title of her EP was "Introducing" she is by no means a new artists as she was a member of a girl group Prestige in the 90s and is the daughter of the guitarist in Brit-funk band from Birmingham J.A.L.N. Band.
