Daughters Of Legacy [2023] - You Betta Know [One Voice Entertainment]

As you may have gathered from their name, Daughters Of Legacy are the daughters of some major soul artists. Although only four are shown on the sleeve image they started out as five: Keyshia Jackson (Millie Jackson), Heather Hayes (Isaac Hayes), Namphuyo Aisha (Betty Wright), Jamecia Bennet (Ann Nesby) and Issa Pointer (Ruth Pointer).

The four who make up the current line-up are Keyshia Jackson, Heather Hayes and Namphuyo Aisha  who are joined by the daughter of Ray Charles, Robyn L. Charles.

Individually they have been performing for 20+ years, coming together as Daughters of Legacy in 2012 instigated by Jackson.

As far as we can tell, "You Betta Know", released today (23 May '23), is their first release as a group, it's certainly the only one currently available. The song was written by A. Jermaine Mobley aka Jermaine Hardsoul who featured here in April '22 with his EP "Oji Nunu".

Kim Tavar [2023] - The Next Stage [Self Released] (Album Samples) PROMO

The sophomore album from Boston's Kim Tavar, aptly titled "The Next Stage", is due for release on Friday (26 May '23). We will post in full on release but for now will post up short samples to give you a flavour of what's to come.

Since releasing her debut album "My Story" (initially on Bandcamp only in Feb '21), consisting of 13 self written songs, Kim has shortened her name from Tavares to Tavar. 

She has subsequently released five singles which includes a Christmas single in 2022. The latest single "Beautiful" (24 Feb '23) is the only one included on the new ten track set, so we get nine new songs to enjoy.

Once again on the new album, all songs are self-penned except for one sensitive re-make of Karin Jones' album only track (from "Under The Influence Of Love" (1982)) "Last Night In My Dreams" (retitled "Last Night"). The songs have a nostalgic vibe with heartfelt R&B ballads, funky 80’s/90’s style mid-temp & up-tempo dance tracks.

Manny Rahelu (The Realm), who seems omnipresent at the moment, produced the opening track "You Don't Know" with Swiss based producer DJ Soulchild twiddling the knobs on "Ain't No One" which was inspired by Jam & Harris' 80s sound (think S.O.S Band, Atlantic Starr, Cherrelle). Oher producers are available, and were involved on various other tracks but you don't necessarily want to read about that as you'd rather listen to the music so without further ado here they are below.

Regi Myrix feat. Lamar Kelsey [2023] - If You Don't Mind [Myrix Media Group] PROMO

Producer Regi Myrix collaborates with an up and coming new artist Lamar Kelsey for his first release of 2023 "If You Don't Mind" due on 2 Jun '23 but will be available via Bandcamp on Friday (26 May '23). It's from a forthcoming EP "SouLaDeLiCa" which is due in the Autumn.

Regi describes the new song, written by Kelsey, as a smooth, retro soul / R&B banger complete with horn and string arrangements.

Kelsey has released just two previous singles "She Knows My Heart" (Apr 2020 followed by "I Can't Get Over You" the following month.

Regi, of course, produced five of the tracks on Hil St. Soul's recent chart topping album "Back In Love" (Nov '22) including the lead single "A Feeling So Beautiful" (Aug '22).

Stokes & Machine [2023] - Freeway (Soul-Jazz Mix) [Self Released] PROMO

The latest single from Atlanta based writing and production team Stokes & Machine is "Freeway" which set for release on Friday (26 May '23).

They have worked with artists ranging from Glenn Jones, Regina Belle, India Arie, Anthony David, Lalah Hathaway to hip-hop acts Arrested Development, OutKast, Organized Noize, Dr. Dre.

They have an album forthcoming which features Anthony David, Algebra, Lin Rountree and  others.

Cleveland P. Jones began his career appearing and performing the The Fighting Temptations movie. He recently fronted Arrested /Developments latest single.

Rich Beggar [2023] - Nights (The Realm Remix) [Self Released] PROMO

Rich Beggar (aka Prem Sharma) has recently topped the UK Soul Chart, yet again, with his latest single "Nights". It has been subject to two new mixes. One by Don E (Don-E right Time Mix) and the one featured here by Manny Rahelu aka The Realm.

Manny has blended in elements of Michael Wycoff's 1982 modern soul gem "Looking Up To You" to great effect.

George Jackson [2023] - One More Hurt // Back In Your Arms / Hold That Feeling [Hit And Run #HR 1550]

The first of two new releases from Hit And Run out today (23 May '23) contain three songwriter demos recorded by George Jackson. 

Hit And Run maestro Garry J. Cape tells us that he stumbled across a tape some 20 years ago which were marked 'For Dorothy' (i.e. Dorothy Moore) but at that time was not able to license the songs. He took a backup and stored it. Over time it became possible to license the tracks but the the tape could not be found. 

One of the songs, "One More Hurt", was recorded at Fame in 1973 by Candi Station  but unreleased. It was later discovered and Kent released it on a Candi Station compilation "Evidence: The Complete Fame Records Masters" (Kent CDKEN2 353) and then on 45 along with another unreleased George Jackson song, "Do Right Woman".

Garry felt that it was the right time to unleash the original writer's demo along with two other demos of deep soul cuts which have previously escaped: "Back In Your Arms" on "The Soul Of George Jackson" and "Hold That Feeling" on "Soul Lovin'" both released by Fame in 2020.

It is the first time on 45 for all tracks.
