The Detroit Executives [1968] - Cool Off [Pameline #2010]

A Northern Soul classic by The Detroit Executives, with what we all probably want to do right now, "Cool Off" written by Richard 'Popcorn' Wylie. It was their only recording although the same backing was used by The Mighty Lovers, aka The Ideals, on "Mighty Lover" released on Boo-Ga-Loo.

The green label Pameline is the original, the orange one a 1977 re-press sold by Soul Bowl. A Music Town issue is also floating around which is a bootleg with Detroit Soul "All Of My Life" on the flip.

Four Tops [1986] - Hot Nights [Motown #1854 MF]

Something to look forward to tonight! "Hot Nights" is probably not a very well known song from Four Tops which was a non-hit from 1986. It was their last single of their second spell at Motown between 1983-86. I believe that it was a single only i.e. non-album track.

A 12" version was issued in Europe with a medley of five of their 60s hits: I Can't Help Myself, Shake Me Wake Me (When It's Over), Standing In THe Shadows Of Love, Reach Out I'll Be There and Bernadette.

Elisha La'Verne [2000] - So Very Hot [Urbanstar #URST 005]

A modern soul spin from the guvnor Terry Jones from 2000, Elisha La'Verne "So Very Hot" which is very appropriate for today!

I decided to try and continue on my laptop which is a right royal pain in the ass as all my logons, web links, software and sound links (Hi-Fi) etc. are on the desktop which is refusing to work in this heat (currently 35C where I am), and the laptop runs like a dog in comparison, but we'll see how productive this is until I throw it out the window in disgust!

DJ Kool Keith [2022-07-17] - Soulful Slow Jams [Soul Groove Radio]

This week's episode of Soulful Slow Jams by The Soul Emperor DJ Kool Keith broadcast on Sunday 17 Jul 2022 on Soul Groove Radio. A quick scan through the playlist highlights that there is at least one track from all the soulful decades from 60s to date, except the noughties.

This week's highlighted track is Black Ice "Blind Over You" from 1976 was originally recorded by Chicago Gangsters in 1975 and is credited to Mac & Mac who I assume would be a combination of the McCants brothers Sam, Chris, James and Leroy who were in the group. They started out as The Harmonics changing their name to Chicago Gangsters around 1973 and then just Gangsters. Sam and Chris would later form Rumple-Stilts-Skin around 1981 with female vocalist from Chicago Gangsters Sharon Jones. They in turn would later be known as Ivy and released three albums in the mid 80s.

Catch Kool Keith live every Sunday between 14:00-16:00 (BST) on Soul Groove Radio or listen back to, or download, previous show from Podmatic
