Roderick Harper [2024] - Love Is In The Air [RHM Entertainment] (PROMO SAMPLE)

In 2021 Roderick Harper released his fifth album, "Back To Love", and followed it last year with "2702". HIs next album will be "Back To Love Vol.2: Journey To Love" (due later this year) from which he will release the lead single "Love Is In The Air" on 31 May, and a very strong single it is!

Harper is from Washington D.C. and studied music at Southern University in Baton Rouge, being taught by Alvin Batiste. Whilst at university he secured a gig as vocalist for Ellis Marsalis, who he performed with for several years.

His voice can be heard on HBO 'Soul of the Game', the BET BlacKout and UMC series, 'Terror Lake Drive', and as a featured vocalist on Kent Jordan’s 2004 album "Out of this World" as well as commercials such as Folgers Coffee and McDonalds. 

His first album was titled "Beautiful Beginnings" released in 2000 followed by "The Essence of..." (2004), "Perfect Imperfections" (2018), "Evolving" (2020), "Back To Love" (2021) and "2702" (2023).

Rochelle Williams [2024] - Be Mine [Self Released]

Although South Londoner Rochelle Williams began releasing music in 2020, her latest single, "Be Mine", is only her fourth single to date.

We posted her first single, "I Deserve", along with here second, "Still On My Mind", when released in Jun '22. Her only other release is "Loving On Myself" (Nov '23).

Monét X Change [2024] - GREY RAINBOW, Vol. 1 [PEG Records] (Full Album)

Monét X Change is the stage name of Kevin Akeem Bertin, a Saint Lucian-American drag queen, singer, podcaster, and reality television personality. 

Known for competing on RuPaul's Drag Race (2018) and placed sixth but crowned the season's Miss Congeniality and later winning RuPaul's Drag Race All Stars (2018–2019).

Bertin was born in Brooklyn, NYC, and attended the Professional Performing Arts School in Manhattan and trained in opera performance at Westminster Choir College of Rider University.

Recording as Monét X Change since 2018, this is the sophomore album, "GREY RAINBOW, Vol. 1", which is pretty R&B oriented. The standouts for us are "STREETLIGHT" and the closing track "BODY" which was released as the lead single on 23 Feb and a music video produced for it.

No doubt the bigots, musical or otherwise, won't touch this, but that's their loss as this artist can sing, on "BODY" in particular, which is a smooth soul ballad in the traditional style with a superb production.

Cleo Panther [2024] - Strangers [Monterio Records]

After spending 8 years as lead vocalist for Parov Stellar's band, Austrian (Vienna) born, London based, singer/songwriter Cloe Panther (Daniela Hrenek) left in 2019 for a solo career.

She is currently working on her debut solo project "Reflections of Paradise" and so far has released four singles from it this year. The latest is "Strangers" released today.

Bud Wade & Nesee Leeñae [2024] - I Need It [Self Released]

A new album called "Soul Sista" attributed to Bud Wade from Flint, MI, which curiously doesn't feature his name on the artwork but the name of the featured artist Nesee Leeñae, so perhaps he's the producer. 

It's predominantly R&B/hip-hop so we've selected the only track of real interest for soul listeners which is "I Need It", although the closing ballad "Take That Loss" may also be of interest, so we've included it.

There's a subconscious reason why we chose "I Need It", as it samples Devon Howard's "Treat You Right" which was one of our chosen tracks from his "Morning Son" album in March.

Toucan [2024] - Don't Understand Why [Self Released] (Full EP)

We first came across Toucan in Feb with his single "Don't Understand Why" and it's humorous supporting music video (Note that it's an actor not Toucan in the video). A very pleasant, melodic,  blue-eyed soul song we thought. 

Since then he's released another single, "You At Last", in April and today a four track EP, "Don't Understand Why", that includes both singles along with two new songs, our choice being "If This Isn't Love".

Toucan is the artist name for Conor Clancy from Tramore, Ireland. He debuted in March 2018 with "We Fell For Miles" which was then included on a four track, self-titled, EP the following August. A further EP was delivered in 2019. His next two singles in 2020 were covers of "Lovely Day" and "Dancing In The Moonlight".
