The Black Bettys are a duo Rita and Reecie (Sherie and Sherita Murphy), who are identical twins, from Atlanta GA. They debuted as a group in 2019 after spending years supporting, according to their website, artists such as Outkast, T- Pain, Keith Sweat, Glenn Jones, RL of the group Next, Monica, Karyn White, Chante’ Moore, Keith Washington, Gerald Levert, Montel Jordan, Darlene McCoy, Ann Nesby, Algebra Blessett, Kristian Bush of Sugarland, Bobby Brown, Kipper Jones, CeCe Peniston, Y’Anna Crawley, Black Berry Smoke, Frankie Ballard, Cameo’s Anthony Lockett.

Their latest single "U Belong 2 Me" was released yesterday (15 Oct 2021). It's has a traditional deep soul sound with a look-a-like red Atlantic 45 label design for the sleeve image.

I'm posting this more out of interest and intrigue than musical merit or 'soul credentials' as it's clearly a pop version! It's a cover of Angie Stone's song "Wish I Didn't Miss You". which of course is 'inspired' by The O'Jays classic "Backstabbers" .

It's from a German artist named Nina Hahn, released today (15 Oct 2021).

I seriously had to think twice about posting this as it sounds like it was recorded in the 'proverbial' phone box!  The vocals aren't particularly strong but it's a classic quiet storm slow jam originally sung by Frederick and Janice Bowden in 1985.

It was covered by Saint Jamez just last year where I also posted Frederick's original.

Posted more out of 'intrigue' than anything else!

The Hesitations [2021] - Soul Superman [Ace] (Full Album)

Those good people at Ace released the classic 60s album by The Hesitation "Soul Superman" digitally on 24 Sep 2021.

Originally released as their debut album in 1967 on Kapp. The group disbanded in 1968 after the death of  one of the members George "Scott" King but not before they had already released four albums. Their biggest hit being a gospel inspired version of "Born Free" which was the title track of their third album in 1968.

Most of the tracks on the album were written by Jack Ashford (a member of The Funk Brothers) and his writing partner Lorraine Chandler who went under her writing pseudonym Ermastine Lewis.

Several tracks on the album were picked up on by the UK Northern soul scene, not least "That's The Way Love Is" which uses the same backing as Eddie Parker's ultra rare 1966 outing on Aware "I'm Gone", which is not surprising as Ashford & Lewis wrote the original. Another 'biggie' was "I'm Not built That Way" along with the superb "She Won't Come Back" and the title track "Soul Superman".
