Ledisi feat. Kenny Lattimore [2024] - Perfect Stranger [Listen Back Entertainment / BMG] MUSIC VIDEO

There's no doubting the most anticipated release of the week, Ledisi's tenth studio album "Good Life" due on Friday, from which we've already received three singles: "I Need To Know"  (Feb '23), "Sell No Dreams" (Nov 23) and  "Perfect Stranger" with Kenny Lattimore earlier this month.

To whet our appetite she has released a black & white studio visual for the last single.

Ledisi embarks on a U.S. tour to promote the album on 6 Mar coming to Europe at the end of April with three dates in the UK in early May: Birmingham (O2 Institute3 3 May) , Manchester (Academy 2 4 May) and London (Electric Brixton 5 May).

Terra [2024] - Donk [Rapchat Records]

A debut single called "Donk" by an artist naming herself Terra. We can find nothing further on the artist but curiously the sleeve has the TikTok address of @beyoncebase with an image that looks suspiciously like Beyonce, perhaps the image has been lifted from TikTok?

It transpires that the song was written by Beyonce with Pharrell Williams and The-Dream (Youngdell Nash) for her fifth album "Beyonce" in 2013 but didn't make the final cut. Bootlegs of it have been leaked on social media last year. There are slowed down versions floating around on YouTube in an attempt to disguise it from being taken down which we won't post  as they are illegal!

We don't know how legitimate this releases is but as it's on the main DSPs we 'assume' that it is legitimate?

UPDATE: Not surprisingly this release seems to have now been withdrawn so, as we half-suspected, it probably wasn't legitimate.

If, like us, you were wondering what on earth 'Donk' means, apparently it's slang for "a very round, attractive ghetto style booty", so now you know! The Aussies have their own definition but we won't go into that and leave it to your imagination!

Chechi Sarai [2024] - LOVIN' YOU [Milli Roses]

We're not sure when exactly this new cover of Minnie Riperton's iconic "Lovin' You" was released by Chechi Sarai as all DSPs are giving the date of the song's original UK release 14 Mar 1975 but was posted on YouTube on 30 Jan.

The song has been covered a multitude of times (Shanice, Norman Connors and Dianne Reeves versions spring to mind most prominently) but this version must be up there with the best of them. It was Riperton's first, and by far biggest, hit single written with her husband Richard Rudolph and produced by him and Stevie Wonder. It reached #1 on Hot 100 in Apr 1975 and #2 in the UK. Riperton tragically died very young of breast cancer in 1979 aged only 31.

When the 32 yr old Pontiac, MI, native performed the song at the blind auditions for The Voice last Sep she received four chair turns within the first 30 seconds!

Chechi is a first-generation Nigerian-American. After commencing studying medicine at college she decided to take the plunge and pursue her musical ambitions after opening for Brian McKnight. She relocated to L.A. six years ago and has performed BGVs for Lizzo at the Grammy's as well as for Lucky Daye and Deborah Cox and has been a member of Kanye West's Sunday Service Choir.

She is no newcomer, as she released a debut album "Long Gone" in Mar 2017 and another six singles since then.

Benjamin Fro & Gita Buhari [2023] - Work It Out [Vokall Records]

A single that slipped most by in Dec that is too good to let pass by is "Work It Out" by Amsterdam singer/rapper Benjamin Fro and vocalist Gita Buhari from Rotterdam.

Fro last appeared here in Jul '21 featuring on a single, "Clouds" by fellow Dutch artists Noa Lauryn & .multibeat.
