Ricky Jones [2024] - Crazy Sexy [Mountain Top Entertainment] (Full Album)

Ricky Jones, has a new project in the shape of a 14 track album "Crazy Sexy" released today. It's a solid album and we'll stick our neck out and state that it's one of the best of the year so far, standing alongside the highly acclaimed set from Sy Smith.

It's rather churlish attempting to select favourite tracks as we will all have different tastes, and there are no fillers on this set, but the songs we keep returning to are "Sleeping With The Enemy" and the exquisite, smooth, soulful ballad "Tell Me Baby What's Wrong". Don't  jump straight to those tracks though, let the album flow from start to finish, you won't be disappointed.

Jones was born in Vero Beach, FL, to a preacher father and honed his voice in the church choir. He was signed to Motown as the lead singer and songwriter for the trio Yours Truly who released just one album in 1991 along with a few singles. He provided vocal coaching for the Backstreet Boys and has worked with Lionel Richie, BabyFace, Diane Warren and Johnny Gill. 

Jones released an eponymous solo album in 1997 and Discogs attributes an earlier one from 1987 titled "Postman" under the alias Shadow.

Sean B [2024] - Tonight [Grass Hopper Music]

The latest offering from Sean B (aka Dr. Alsean Bryant) is "Tonight" and is very reminiscent of the material Silk Sonic were releasing a couple of years ago (what happened to Silk Sonic? it appears to have been a one off project by Mars & Anderson). Very 70s oriented, just take a look at the sleeve of his 2023 Christmas album with the afro and wicker chair!

There's no complaints here as 70s soul, for us, stands the test of time very well. It's packaged with a short, albeit 5:24 version, and an 'Extended Experience" clocking in at 7:24.

Originally from South Georgia, when not doing music, Dr. Bryant is a Clinical Pharmacist at the AIDS Healthcare Foundation for the DMC (DC, MD, and VA).

Bigger Story Music [2024] - Road Less Traveled [Bigger Story Music]

A six track EP "Soul" credited to Bigger Story Music which is a Nashville, TN, music community run by music veterans and long time friends Ken Lewis and Scott Dente. 

The pair started out in the 90s as touring musicians. They eventually retired from the road life and began careers as studio session musicians, playing on all sorts of recordings for over 25 years. From their experience they became independent record producers.

Later they went their separate ways as producers, small label owners, self taught marketing mavens and A&R men. They met up again and started a production company which became the springboard for many album projects together and their foray into the world of production music. Years went by and thousands of tracks later, with a team of co-writers, players and engineers assembled, they were ready to do their own thing and Bigger Story Music was formed.

The majority of the EP is a bit too much on the pop side for here but one of the tracks "Road Less Traveled" resonated. No artists are credited but we guess from writing credits,       which include Lewis and Dente, that the female lead is Sara Hart.

Amber Scott feat. prodsbysmoke [2024] - Comfort Girl [YAH]

Singer/songwriter, author and actress Amber Scott/Eldreion Williams from New Orleans has released her latest single (her tenth)  "Comfort Girl" today. It features producer prodsbysmoke (Deonte Berry) from Wichita, KS.

After hurricane Katrina, her family was evacuated to Louisville, KT. She them moved to NYC to study performance arts at AMDA in NYC.

Amber debuted in 2020 with "R&B", yet another song using the recurring library sample used by Blue Soul Ten on his new single "The Moon And The Stars" released yesterday!

Beth White [2024] - You're Mine [Self Released]

Having grown up in a small town on southwest Wisconsin, Beth White moved to Nashville, TN, in 2011 to pursue her aspirations to become a musician and now plays live gigs in and around Nashville with her band.

She released her first recording, a five track EP, "Soul Evolution" in Aug 2017 and since then she's released two singles in 2019, one in 2022 and now her first of 2024 called "You're Mine", all self written songs with help on one or two.
