Novine [2021] - State Of Mind [Self Released] (Full EP)

Novine (Posch) released a new 6 track EP 'State Of Mind' on 7 Apr 2021. She wroe all the tracks with Thomas Andersen except for 'State Of Mind' which she  wrote herself. The single from it is 'Over The Blues'.

She is from Berlin, born to a German father and Jamaican mother, and debuted in 2017 with a single 'Roots'. Since then she has released another five singles and two EPs.

It's very pleasant on the ear and the eye, locked right into the Sade school of soul, dreamy, atmospheric melodies with smokey and sultry vocals. I think my favourite track, on first listen from a soulful perspective, is 'State Of Mind' where she really stretches her soulful vocals, however, there's not a duff track on the EP and I could have chosen almost any track. 

It's one of the best full EP's I've heard in a while, so it comes highly recommended.

Syleena Johnson [2021] - The Making Of A Woman (The Deluxe Edition Live) [Entertainment One Music] (Full Album)

In Jan 2020 Syleena Johnson released her eighth studio album called 'Woman'. She is due to release a deluxe version, retitled 'The Makings Of A Woman', on 23 Apr 2021 (available to pre-order now) which includes two additional tracks. This is mainly because of lack of promotion of the initial relase due to Covid.

One of those additional tracks 'Never Been Better' has been released as a single to promote the album. It's a deep soul ballad. The other new track is 'Water' which is not currently available.

On 2 Apr 2021 she posted a live concert with her performing the whole album' I've included a link to that along with the 2020 version of the full album below.

Syleena Johnson should need little introduction, but is the daughter of Chicago legend Syl Johnson and her first release was an album of duets with her father in 1995 'This Time Together By Father And Daughter' on his Twinight label.

A relatively new artist from San Benito, TX, who debuted in 2019 with a single 'Nothing Left To Say'. She has just released her debut, five track, EP on 1 Apr 2021, which includes three tracks already released as singles 'J' (2020), 'Boi' and 'You' this year. The strongest tracks are 'J', 'What You Do To Me' and 'Weakday'.

Maiya Blaney [2021] - Erase My Time [NTL Recordings]

Maiya Blaney's new single 'Something Bout U' was featured here on 18 Mar. She has since released her debut album '3' on 30 Mar 2021. Apart from the single, the only other soul track of interest, from the R&B/hip-hop oriented album, is 'Erase My Time'.

Maiya is a 20-year-old singer, actor, writer, dancer, and performer from Montclair, NJ who is currently living in Brooklyn, NYC. She is a company member of Broadway’s 'Jagged Little Pill' (a musical based on Alanis Morrisette's 1995 album of the same name) and has released around five singles since 2019.
