Soul Messengers [2022] - Move (you got to) The London Remix [House Of Sounds]

Newcastle's Soul Messengers released a new single "MOVE (you got to)" on 30 Sep 2022 and, as is the usual practice, it was only available directly from the Soul Messengers' website.

They have now also released a new 8:39 mix "The London Remix".

Soul Messengers are Steve Lee along with John Anderson, Anthony Keenan and John Walker who have worked together on and off for 25 years. Steve Lee is also one half of SouLutions with Louise Mehan.

Assal [2022] - I Don't Wanna Be With U [Plaizir Muzic]

Assal Jean has featured on these pages a couple of times previously and both tracks used samples Webster Lewis' "Emotions" on one and Don Downing's "Dr Boogie" on the other. Therefore, I'm pretty sure this new one "I Don't Wanna Be With U" does too but haven't figured it out yet. 

Curiously, he did a version of Silk's "I Can't Stop" in January, between "Emotions" and "Dr Boogie", so I wonder if that's where LF System got the idea from? (included below).

UPDATE: Many thanks to Starpoint Radio's Mike Prior who has put me (and possibly you) out of my misery and identified the 'sample' as Joe Simon's "I Don't Wanna Make Love" released as the B side to "Glad You Came My Way" on Posse in 1980. It appears to be a non-album single only and features those pesky Sweethearts of Philly, Evette Benton, Barbara Ingram and  Carla Benson, on backing vocals. It did feature on a Joe Simon Ace/Kent compilation "Soul For The Dancefloor" in 2009. The world of soul lost Joe Simon last December (2021).

Randy Roberts & Richard Burton [2022] - I Miss You [Quantize #QTZ399]

One of Harold Melvin & The Blue Notes' best ballads "I Miss You" has been given the soulful house treatment by Randy Roberts and Richard Burton and is due out on 21 Oct via Quantize, but you can grab it now from Traxsource.

It was originally the title track to Harold Melvin & Blue Notes debut album on PIR in 1972 until the success of the single "If You Don't Know Me By Now" when the album subsequently retitled to the name of the hit single.

You may recall in 2017 they did a similar exercise on The O'Jays' "Stairway To Heaven".

Output / Input Feat. Katie Holmes Smith [2022] - Really No Chance [Self Released] PROMO

Output/Input was formed during lockdown by bassist, composer, producer and music director for Chaka Khan, Melvin Lee Davis with the Triple H Horns i.e. Nick Mead (trumpet), Jacob Shaw (saxophone) and Patrick Hayes (trombone). The full ensemble is completed by Jay Williams (drums), Adam Kovacs (percussion), Kanghyun Bu (Guitar), Daeun Kim (Keyboard) and Jesse Milliner (keyboard).

They have quickly become firm favourites in the UK with several cover versions and are now beginning to release original material with the last single featuring Antonio McLendon on "I'm In Love" possibly their best to date? 

The follow-up single is "Really No Chance" (due on 11 Nov 2022) written by British songwriting duo Mark Love and Noval Smith and features the UK's Katie Holmes Smith (originally from Frimley, Surrey, now based in Kingston-Upon-Thames.

Katie is a much in-demand vocalist having just completed a tour with Robbie Williams and is rehearsing to join Adele in residence in Las Vegas later this month. In addition she has toured with Christina Aguilera, Kylie Minogue, Westlife, Leona Lewis, Olly Murs and others.

Chloe Bodur [2022] - RÜYA [Self Released] (Full EP)

North West London born and raised, of Sri-Lankan/Turkish heritage, 23 year old singer/songwriter Chloe Bodur's music is influenced by traditional soul and bossanova which she refers to as R&Bossanova. She hates it to be labelled as neo-soul, so take note DJs.

She first featured here in Jun with a single "Come With Me" followed by "Kitty & I" in August which are both included on her new five track EP "RÜYA" released 6 Oct 2022.

Mavis SWAN Poole [2022] - The Assignment [Music Matters Entertainment]

As the saying goes 'cream always rises to the top' and "The Assignment" is probably the classiest single of the week from Mavis SWAN Poole.

Mavis is from Durham, NC, and was a member of Soul Understated who released a couple of albums "On the Shoulders of Giants (Side A)" (2014) and "Songs In The Key Of Grease" (2017) but she also released a solo album "Soul Tree (Sultry)" in 2009.

She is a classically trained music teacher and vocal coach who has performed with many big name artists including Gladys Knight, Mavis Staples, Lauryn Hill and Shirley Caesar to name but a few.

She is currently working on an EP "Adult Time: Vol 1" and the lead single is "The Assignment" released yesterday (7 Oct 2022), which may be an example of what's to came, so I can't wait to hear the full EP

Camp [2022] - Lucid [INVS] (Full EP)

Camp is an L.A. Based artist formerly known as Aaron Camper originally from Salisbury, MD, who featured here last Nov with "Heavy". After spending years writing for artists such as Robin Thicke and Justin Timberlake he rebranded himself and decided embark on a solo career.

He followed up "Heavy" with an EP/album  "Process" in Mar 2002 which was his first album since 2018. His latest project is a three track EP "Lucid" (4 Oct 2022) which contains the title track which has a supporting video, "Addicted" (which also has a video) and "222am".
