Heat & Horn Engine feat. Jevon McGlory [2023] - (Put Your) Trust In Love [Bad Hat Records]

This new song is based on / inspired by Heat's 1980 two-stepper "This Love That We Found" from their self-titled  debut album on MCA in 1980, also released as a single edit retitled "Baby (This Love That We Found)".

The arranger and sax player Tom Saviano, who wrote the song with lead vocalist Jean Marie Arnold, contacted Bill Dowling who listened to the album and loved this track and set about writing a new song around it called "(Put Your) Trust In Love". The vocalist is Jevon McGlory from Chino, CA.

The Horn Engine is a project produced by Saviano and Dowling based in L.A. They have released two previous singles, "Let Me Stay" (Sep '21) and "The World Above" (Nov '21) both featuring Devyn Rush.

Estee Pierce [2023] - Baby I'm Ready [Branamion Records]

It's been over a year since the last single from Estee Pierce ("Slide" (Jun '22), but he's back with a cover of  Levert's "Baby I'm Ready" (from "Rope A Dope Style" 1990). 

The song has been covered in recent years by others that have been posted, namely Eddie G (Dec '21) and Nicholas Davis, (Nov '21).

We also note that in June Pierce reissued his 2016 album "Life Stories".

Whilst the single is on Spotify, there is currently a technical problem playing it, but we've included it as hopefully it will be rectified. Unfortunately we can't find it on YouTube. We have a sneaking suspicion that it may have been withdrawn as Amazon is stating that it's not available for purchase.

Beth [2023] - Ooooooo [Anise Records]

The new single from Beth (Griffith-Manley) is "Ooooooo" taken from her album "Get To Know Me" (Sep '22). It's her first release since then as she has been busy supporting Kem on tour.

As you will know if you follow the blog, Beth is from Detroit and is the daughter of Motown Funk Brother pianist, the late Johnny Griffith. She was a body double for Whitney Houston in the musical movie Sparkle and a finalist in The Voice 2019 (mentored by John Legend).

Beth has provided backing vocals not only for Kem but was with Anita Baker for five years. She's toured with The O'Jays and Najee and performed for two presidents, Clinton and Obama.

SoulStrutter Top 50 July 2023

Continuing our Top 50s for July this is our selection for Jul 2023 excluding Retro and Neo Soul tunes (already posted), although one or two have crept in.

Three hours fifteen minutes of quality tuneage with many others left out that could have been included. Once again, they are in no order of merit simply ordered by tempo building up from the slowies.

There are a couple from the tail end of June, Sweatson Klank (28 Jun) and Derric Gobourne Jr (29 Jun) and Club Des Belugas is early Jun (9 Jun) but wasn't discovered or getting any airplay until July).
