David Scott [2021] - Bumpy Nights [V Sconney Entertainment] (Full EP)

The 'elusive' David Scott who I can find nothing about as there are several artists with the same (fairly common) name and his music is conflated on all DSP's with several other artists of the same name.

He had a big tune in the UK back in April with a two sided single titled "Still R&B" which included "You Don't Have To Be Hard" and "Stepp", with the former getting most attention.

Today (18 Aug 2021) he has released a six track EP "Bumpy Nights" which contains "You Don't Have To Be Hard" (still the standout track) but not "Stepp".

I would guess he is an older artist from his voice, so has possibly released other material or was a member of a group. I did a bit of digging in April when I posted the last release and perhaps narrowed him down to Cincinnati based on the record label, but could be barking up the wrong tree.

If anyone knows anything about this artist then please leave a comment.

Japanese singer Nao Yoshioka (now based in New York) releases another track from her "Undeniable" album from last year with a new Philly Soul Sessions Version. Less than a month ago (18 Jun) she released a Philly Soul Sessions Version of "Liberation".

The next instalment is "Got Me" released on Friday (13 Aug 2021). They will both be featured on a six track EP "Philly Soul Sessions" due this Friday (20 Aug).

Another single slipped out in between "Boundaries" on 16 Jul. I'll post the full EP on Friday when it's released.

The Isley Brothers - Tiny Desk (Home) Concert 18 Aug 2021

Hot off the press, today the legendary Isley Brothers performed four of their classics in a Tiny Desk concert from their home studio in St Louis.

The mini concert features probably two of my favourite (post Motown) songs from them "Footsteps In The Dark" and "For The Love Of You" as well as opening with "Between The Sheets" and closing with their biggest hit "That Lady", the 1973 version obviously, but they first recorded it on United Artists in 1964 as "Who's That Lady" with Jimi Hendrix apparently playing guitar!

Ronald Isley (now 80) and Ernie Isley (69) are the only two remaining members of the six brothers, all other brothers except Rudolph (who left to join the ministry in 1989) are now deceased. Ronald was only 14 when he and his elder brothers O'Kelly and Rudolph formed the group in 1954. Ernie was only two and joined the group in 1966 aged 14.

Many know the Isley's from their Motown period which only lasted three years between 1966-69. They only released eight singles (and only four charted!) and two albums on the Tamla imprint in that period but the quality of their Motown recordings are still appreciated today, especially in Northern soul circles. (I think "This Old Heart Of Mine (Is Weak For You)" is still one of the greatest Motown songs ever recorded and was a template for the 'classic/traditional' Northern Soul sound). They left Motown to re-establish their own label T- Neck and adopted more of a funk sound.

VA [2021] - Soul On The Real Side #12 [Outta Sight #OSCD062]

Outta Sight release a twenty track (CD only) modern soul compilation "Soul On The Real Side #12" tomorrow (19 Aug 2021).  They have raided the vaults of mainly Mainstream (3) and Frank Fioravanti's Sound Gems (6) choosing the best mid 70s cuts.

Most tracks will be well known to modern soul connoisseurs, with the hardest to get hold of probably Daybreak as it has two 'in-demand' sides with "Everything Man" (also recorded by Main Ingredient) on the flip.

All are from 70s except Timeless Legend from 1980 and The Falcons which is a previously unreleased 60s side first issued in 1998 in UK on Joe Boy.

Track List (with links to YouTube video on title and Discogs on Cat. No.). I've also provided a approx. guide price based on median/high Discogs sales (which isn't always very reliable but gives a rough guide).

Anaiis Feat. Topaz Jones [2021] - chuu [Dream Sequence Recordings]

Anaiis is of French/Senegal descent now living in London via Toulouse, Dublin, Dakar and Oakland. "chuu" is her latest single released 21 Jul 2021. This grooves along quite nicely for about three and a half minutes before the rap from Topaz Jones interrupts it, but can be easily edited out as it runs to the end, so fade out at 3:20!
