The Dirty Dozen - The Best Of 2021... Covers, Reissues, Remixes & Samples Part 6 (Apr 2021 Wk 15)
My selection of this week's best cover versions, remixes, reissues,
previously unreleased and new songs using samples (Apr 2021 Wk 15). (In no
particular order)
Crack Of Dawn [2021] - Gotta Find A Way [Ford Street Records]
Crack Of Dawn release their new single on 16 Apr 2021.
This is the same group who recorded in the 70s/80s who
split up and have now got back together. They released acouple of albums
in 1976 and 1981 and a new one called 'Spotlight' in 2017.

Omar Wilson [2021] - If You Think You're Lonely Now [BSE Recordings]
A new cover of the Bobby Womack deep soul ballad from his iconic 'The
Poet' album from 1981 on Beverly Glen has been released by Omar Wilson on
16 Apr 2021. A brave move tackling the legendary 'Last Soul Man', but I
think he's pulled it off.
K-Ci (Cedric Hailey) of K Ci & JoJo also did a nice version in 1994.
Wilson is from Norwall, CT and is a three time Apollo winner from 2007. He released his first single 'Never Again' in 2012 and his debut album 'Living Legend' in 2019.

Nialanii [2021] - Come Over [Self Released]
This sounds very familiar, so not sure if it has been released by another
artist recently, or just sounds very similar? It's more of an interlude with
a running time of only 1:12, which is a shame as it could do with being
longer.
She's just released a three track EP on 15 Apr 2021, but I can't find the
other two tracks posted anywhere so we'll have to make do with this very
short track and samples of the other two.

Ash Leone [2021] - Hungry [TRST RCRDS]
Ash Leone is from Philadelphia. She released her first single 'Physical'
in 2019 after moving to L.A. Her latest single 'Hungry' was released 16 Apr 2021. It's a 'generic' neo soul/R&B outing like so many that are around at present, with nothing to make it stand out from the crowd.

Eloise [2021] - Hungover [Harbour Artists & Music]
'Hungover' is a pre-released track from an album 'Somewere In-Between'
due on 18 Jun 2021, it was released as single on 21 Feb 2021. Eloise is an
artist from London who debuted in 2019 with 'This Thing Called Living'
EP.

The Seventh House [2021] - Feel Like Makin' Love [Sexgutta Records]
From, what I presume to be, a debut album from a blue-eyed group called The Seventh
House is a cover of Roberta Flack's 'Feel Like Making
Love'. It gives it a stepper's vibe.
The album has a couple of other covers of EWF's 'Boogie Wonderland' and
Chaka Khan's recent release 'Like Sugar' which is based on the Fatback
Band's '(Are You Ready) Do The Bus Stop' from 1975, neither of which 'float
my boat' as they come across as a wedding cover band.
The album seems under-produced with some of the tracks sounding like a live session, which they may well be?

Sondra Love [2021] - No Smoking [South Camp Records] (Full Album)
The debut album 'No Smoking' from 21 year old Sondra Love from Memphis,
TN, dropped on 14 Apr 2021. The standout track for me is 'Blaze', but 'So Dope' and 'Free' are both very good, a couple of the other tracks have sections of rapping in them.
She was involved in the writing of all tracks and, to date, has released two singles since 2019.
