Lin Rountree [2023] - The Message [Trippin N Rhythm Records] (Full Album)

Classy jazz trumpeter Lin Rountree releases his eighth album "The Message" today. He's release an album every two or three years since his first "Groovetree" in 2005.

The lead single was "It's You" (Jan '23) with the current single being "Solid", also released today. As you would expect from a trumpeter, the album is predominantly instrumental with "A Little Closer" being our instrumental pick which is a driving jazz funker. Guests include New Zealand guitarist, saxophonist and bassist Ryan La Valette on two tracks (including the single "Solid") and Gary Johnson.

Only one vocal track is included, "One You", which features Algebra Blessett. Stokes & Machine are currently riding high with their current single "Freeway" and Rountree & Blessett featured on their last single "All My Black" in Sep '22.

Rountree was born in New York in 1971 growing up in Alexandria, VA, where he learnt to play trumpet aged 11. After graduating from Florida A&M he moved to Detroit. His first three albums were independently released until he signed to Trippin N Rhythm Records in 2013.

Wendy Hicks [2023] - A Woman's Dream [Indie Voice] (Full Album)

Whilst her singing career spans more than 25 years, Washington D.C.'s Wendy Hicks is more than a singer, she's also a songwriter, producer, radio/TV personality, magazine editor-in-chief, CEO, mentor, budding non-profit Executive Director.

She has four singles listed (since 2013), three of which feature on her debut(?) album "A Woman's Dream" released today. 

The clear standout for us is her 2017 single "You Make Me Wanna", a superb stepper that saw plenty of action back in 2017, and should once again.

The Teskey Brothers [2023] - The Winding Way [Decca] (Full Album)

From their sound you would be forgiven for thinking that Melbourne's Teskey Brothers (Josh vocals/rhythm guitar) and Sam (lead guitar)) were from the southern US states with their blue/country/soul sound.

They have featured here several times over the last couple of years and, today, released their third studio album "The Winding Way". We've already had a taste of a few tracks i.e. "Oceans Of Emotions", "This Will Be Our Year", "Take My Heart" and "London Bridge" which have all been singles.

In addition to, their now, three studio albums, they have recorded two live albums, the first of which, "Live at The Forum", entered at #1 on the Australian album chart and won Best Blues & Roots album at the 2020 ARIA awards.

The group, consisting of other members not just Josh and Sam, were formed in 2008 but only began to gain recognition from 2017. 

Dismiss this at your peril thinking it's blue-eyed, as we think Josh Teskey has one of the most soulful voices we've heard ... from a 'honky'!😉

ZayHoVa [2023] - Restive [New Altitude Records]

A double single labelled "Restive" which features "Running from Luv" (the preferred track) and "Restless" by an artist named ZayHoVa who we can find nothing about.

Whether it's a group or a solo artist we do not know but Spotify lists the performers as Zachar3 and ZayHova, implying a duo. The writer on both tracks (and most of their other material which dates back to 2021) is given as Isaiah Smith who may be one of the above?

Devon Howard [2023] - Wherever You Are [Self Released]

Devon Howard is a singer/songwriter from Baltimore, MD, who grew up listening to his father's record collection which consisted of the likes of The Manhattans, Stylistics and Commodores. He was a member of several groups including Me-2-U who released a self-titled album on RCA in 1993 and subsequently three singles from it. He was known then as DeVaughn Howard.

His debut solo project "DH" was released in 2008 followed by "Return To Love" in 2015, and he is currently working on his third, "Morning Son".

His latest single "Wherever you Are", is released today and is the fourth song from his upcoming album following, "Need To Survive", "Your Love Is" (May '22), (which also had a DJ Pope Funk Hut Remix (Aug '22))  "Forever And Always". (Oct '21) which also had a couple of remixes.
