Cameron Foster [2022] - From The Soul [Sandtown Records] (Full Album)

Cameron Foster is a new artist from Morrilton, Arkansas who emerged in 2020 but has already released ten singles and four albums. His latest album is "From The Soul" released today (15 May 2022).

It's a bit of a mixed bag of styles ranging from southern soul to R&B and hip-hop with quite a few good ballads. Something for everyone, or jack of all master of none? You decide.

Najee [2022] - Savoir Faire [Shanachie] (Full Album)

A new album from jazz saxophonist Najee was released on Friday (13 May 2022) titled "Savoir Faire" with an array of guest artists ranging from Frank McComb to Alyson Williams.

Alyson Williams features on a cover of Michael Henderson's "Valentine Love" from 1975 which originally featured Jean Carn. That track along with "Modern Lovers" on which Frank McComb performs vocals (sounding very like Stevie Wonder in particular on this song) are probably the highlights.

Andy Tee played an instrumental track, "Hurricane", featuring Adam Hawley on the UK Soul Chart Breakers show last night.

John Henry Miller Jr. [1983] - I'm Glad / Spirtual Healing (12" Mix) [Good Time Records]

I noticed this pop up in the new releases on Friday. It is obviously a reissue and further investigation shows that is was also digitally released in 2014 by Essential Media Group.

Originally it was a 12" release on Catawba Records out of Carolina by John Henry Miller Jr. in 1983 and appears to be his only recording. The 12" had vocal and instrumental versions of "Spiritual Healing" on the A side along with the same for "I'm Glad" on the flip side. It has some pedigree as it was produced and arranged by George Kerr and mixed by M & M Productions i.e. John Morales. and Sergio Munzibai.

It's a good double-sider completely new to my ears, and I suspect under the radar as prices for the original 12" are still relatively cheap, although that looks like it's changing as the last one sold on Discogs for nearly £40.

The Dirty Dozen - The Best Of 2022... Part 19 (May 2022 Wk 19) Spotify Playlist

SoulStrutter selections of the best releases this week
(May 2022 Wk 19)
In no particular order other than tempo.

As alluded to in "The Neo Dirty Dozen" post, there were not many, what I would consider, 'great' releases this week. Finding tunes early this week was somewhat hindered by Ace/Kent back catalogue dominating almost half of the 400 pages of Amazon new releases.

Whilst there are some nice tracks on the new Tank & The Bangas new album "Red Balloon", it was a little disappointing from a purely soul perspective and it was the only album of any significance released this week.

Choosing this week's SoulStrutter Selection of the Week was a no brainer so without further ado it's Tamara Dos Santos "Would You Wait?" which seems to have got overlooked, even by me, from last week's releases as I had it short-listed on Friday but not posted until Wednesday.

However, there were a few others under consideration: Lena Byrd-Miles and Jemelia Richardson from this playlist and Sidibe and Jazzlyn Soul from the Neo playlist along with "Jellyfish" from Tank & The Bangas album.

The Neo Dirty Dozen - The Best Of 2022... Part 9 (May 2022 Wk 19) Spotify Playlist

The SoulStrutter selection of the best Neo Soul releases for:
Mar 2022 Wk 19 in no particular order.

Not a lot of 'great' material around this week so this week's selections include a few hangovers from the previous week's releases and also two that are a month old that appear to have been overlooked. Only a few of them, as far as I'm aware, have received any airplay so far, so hopefully that will change.

I've only just realised after compiling and posting that they are ALL females, not by design it's just the way the cookie crumbled!

Global Soul Chart 14th May 2022 (Week 19)

14th May 2022
The Global Soul chart broadcast on Sat 14th May as it is every Saturday between  5pm-7pm (GMT) on Global Soul Radio.

Each week around a dozen or more 'Breakers' are interspersed with chart entries. These will be posted separately.

Far be it for me to say 'I told you so', but the new #1, only on its second week on the chart, is the new album from Reuben James which SoulStrutter predicted (on 23 Apr) before the album was even officially released based on hearing it on promo. Very hot on it's heels is Raheem Devaughn's album entering straight in at #2 only a week after release, which only has about three 'good' tracks on it from a soul perspective in my opinion and the best one is the one played (included in last week's "The Dirty Dozen") along with a cover of Minnie Riperton's "Memory Lane" and the current single "If I Don't".

There has been a wholesale 'clear out' (as predicted last week with so many on the decline) with eight new entries, which is all well and good but how does anything stand much of a chance of sticking on such a fast moving chart? Having said that, this is probably one of the best charts in recent weeks, as you may have noticed that many of the previous entries (most of which didn't stay around very long) have not been posted. This week there are only three and how one of them, Tigga Bounce, made it to the top spot last week is anyone's guess but it has taken a big tumble this week and will probably be gone next week along with Gwen Bunn and Sierra Sellers. I'm not too keen on Conor Albert but I think the new entries will stick around another week and we could possibly see a departure for Samuel Archer.

Summary: 5 risers, 5 fallers, 2 non-movers and 8 new entries

New Entries: Raheem Devaughn, Lenora, Tony Walk, Sanura ft Raheem Devaughn, Kenyon Dixon, Sabrina Claudio, Meadoe Janee, Conor Albert

Highest Risers: Sly Johnson (+8), Grant Alexander (+7), Reuben James (+6)

Biggest Fallers: Tigga Bounce (-10), Samuel Archer (-6), Gwen Bunn (-3)

Losers: Akemi Fox, Kosmic Kae, Macke Keane, Output/Input, VIA, Eric Roberson, Nicquab, Syd.
