My selection of the best releases this week (Oct 2021 Wk 40)
In no particular order other than tempo.
Another 'extended' selection this week simply because I couldn't
narrow it down to a single track from each of Cornell CC Carter's and
Rob Ruha's new albums both of which have two featured tracks.
Cornell's highly anticipated new album "Next Life" probably needs little further introduction but I urge you to listen
to the new album from Rob Ruha "Preservation Of Scenery". Not your 'traditional' soul but there are some great mellow and
soulful tracks on it as well as a couple of dancers.
Two tracks worthy of mention, that may have otherwise featured had
they not been remixes, from Castella "So Glad I Met You" and Leela
James featuring Anthony Hamilton "Complicated", the latter being
posted in the covers etc. dozen.
No particular track 'really' stands out from the crowd for me this
week although there are quite a few that are all contenders for this
week's SoulStrutter Selection. The two albums mentioned above have
several tracks that are worthy.
Tica Holiday
posted last Tuesday before several DJ's 'jumped' on it, Secret Night
Gang (again
posted here last June
from a YouTube video for it, before it was officially released on 1
Oct). Tiffany Wilson "Be Kind" from Bespeak Empower compilation.
Rickie Jones "Bad Habits" and the new single from Regina Belle. So it
really is just an arbitrary choice from those this week.
By now you know my 'contrary' nature and how I like to choose the one
that is most unlikely to receive airplay and the one that perhaps
needs a helpful 'nudge' on it's way, so I'm going for Rob Ruha's
"Running Away" from his new album, as I think all the others will need
little help and most are already getting spins.
P.S. It's great to see last week's selection of PJ Morton, contrary to my initial view that it would be 'too good for UK Soul charts', getting plenty of attention! Reverse psychology seems to work😉!
UPDATE 11 Oct 2021 It seems that the Tica Holiday track has been withdrawn as it is no longer on Spotify nor DSP's! Fortunately, I managed to download it before it was withdrawn so it will feature in the mix later this week.
Also, listening back to the mix, the track by Tiffany Wilson "Be Kind" needs highlighting, it just gets better with each listen. DJs please get behind this one as it's sheer quality! It was featured last night in Roger Williams SoulSorts show as one of the three SoulStrutter Selections.
