Andre Gibson & The Universal Togetherness Band [2023] - Apart: Demos 1980-1984 [Numero Group] (Full Album)

In 2020 Numero Group released "Apart: Demos 1980-1984" by Andre Gibson & The Universal Togetherness Band but there were only 8 tracks. They have reissued it (digitally and on vinyl) on Friday with an additional 4 tracks, actually 5 as "Quickie" from the original is not included and has been replaced by one of five new tracks prefixed #:

4 - Bring Me

#5 - Call Me

6 - Valentine Lover

7 - Don't It Feel Good

#8 - I Wanna Take You Away

A year ago Soul Direction released two tracks "I Want You" / "Call For Love" on vinyl from another, eponymous, previously unreleased album released by Numero Group in 2015. You can read some background about the Chicago student group there.

Ty Causey [2023] - My Love Zone [Tyvonn Records]

Ty Causey has a new album "Faithful & True" in the pipeline and has released two singles so far from it "Don't Squeeze The Fruit" (1 Jul) and on Friday (7 Jul) "My Love Zone".

It's his first new material since the album "U-Turn" in Nov '21.

Ty is from Fort Wayne, IN, and emerged in 1998 when he came to the attention of smooth jazz saxophonist Najee who, after hearing one of his demos, invited him to work on his "Morning Tenderness" album on which Ty wrote several songs and performed BGVs. He went on to tour with Najee until 2004 when he released his debut album "N-Tysing" and continued to release a slew of well received smooth soul albums through the  00s and  2010s.

Bird Williams [2023] - Love You [SouLink Music]

We have featured Bird Williams previously in May '21 with his single "Sometimes Man" and took the opportunity of posting all his singles to date.  Since then he has released just one single "Get Away" in May '22 (which is on a different Spotify profile as is "Sometimes Man") both written by Bigg Robb

He has a new single released on Friday "Love You" which is excellent.

We couldn't find much about him then nor now apart from that we think he's from Memphis.

Rico C [2023] - Steppers Groove [Sound Tyte Muzic]

A rather derivative single (think R. Kelly) from Rico C (who we believe is Stephen Rodriquez Cason) was released last week (4 Jul) titled "Steppers Groove".

Rico C is a southern soul artist from Greenwood, SC, who has released around ten single since 2020. The Spotify profile he is (incorrectly) linked to is for British audio engineer Richard Conning who worked with Depeche Mode and Erasure in the 80s.

Emilia Sisco & Cold Diamond & Mink [2023] - Trouble [Timmion Records]

Emilia Sisco (Emilia Heinonen) is a jazz/soul/blues singer from Helsinki and her second single for Helsinki based Timmion Records was released on Friday. 

Only the A side "Trouble" has been released digitally with the vinyl flip, "It'll Get Better" due on 21 Jul which is described as a lush southern soul drawl, coming off like a classy forgotten Hi session.

She is joined by the Timmion house band Cold Diamond & Mink who are label owners Jukka Sarapää and Sami Kantelinen along with guitarist Seppo Salmi.

Clarence Carter [2023] - Lovely Day [Delta Music]

Clarence Carter is perhaps best known in the mainstream for "Patches", a #4 Billboard Hot 100 and #2 UK pop chart hit (his only one) in 1970 (it stayed at #2 for three weeks in Oct-Nov being kept off the top spot by the same song, Matthews Southern Comfort "Woodstock") or perhaps his earlier 1968 hit "Slip Away" covered by many. 

He is now 87 yrs old and a remastered version of his cover of Bill Withers' "Lovely Day" was released on Friday (7 Jul) along with an instrumental version. We're not 100% sure when it was originally recorded but believe that it may have been 1993 on a compilation "Patches".

He was born blind and briefly married to Candi Staton on 9 Aug 1970, they divorced in 1973 and had a son Clarence Jr.
