Parkes Stewart [2022] - Blackpearl [Eat Music Group]

Parkes Stewart is a soulspirational singer from Detroit who has to date released around four albums since 1991 "Parkes" (1991), "Another Chapter" (1996), "Heart & Soul" (2004) and "Extraordinary Christmas" (2020).

He sang background vocals and wrote many songs for the 80s/90s urban contemporary gospel group Commissioned and also wrote songs recorded by Yolanda Adams ("Open Arms" and "More Than Just A Melody" also recorded by Ashanti), Dave Hollister ("Ordinary Just Won’t Do") and 3m selling "Cry On" for 112 on the tribute to Notorious B.I.G.

His new single "Blackpearl" will be available on all digital platforms on 29 Mar 2022 which is a song he describes as an anthem that celebrates women of color all over the world.

Parkes Stewart sings and writes a combination of spiritual soul and R&B music that seamlessly blends songs of longing, pain, love, and hope. Parkes explains that his objective to be the ("nexus" meaning connection) linking our humanity and spirituality. His intention is to look for the purity in the love relationship between husband and wife, man and brother, and God and man. Parkes’ music has something for everyone, for people who have experienced divorce, the young person with potential who just needs a helping hand, and for the burdened soul who needs God.

For Parkes, it has always been more than music. It is about keeping it real and dealing with issues that are usually swept under the carpet. The music then becomes not just an expression of what he does, but is something he truly is.

His last single "Clear Your Mind" was released last August  and a video for it is posted below.

Chilles [2022] - nothing but time [Hvilepuls Records]

A pleasant enough little instrumental ditty "nothing but time" from Chilles who I can find nothing about. I checked a few other releases by him/them and all have writers credits to Ole Georg Pedersen so presume that is who it is. 

He has around thirty releases in the same sort of style, which I would describe as lounge/chill, since 2020, so I guess he's a beat maker/producer and presumably from Scandinavia, possibly Norway as I found a Soundcloud channel but there's only one track posted there.

David J & LiL Dave [2022] - CC, Vol 3 [After Hours Productions] (Full Album)

I listened to this album "CC, Vol 3" by David J (Josis) & LiL Dave (release 14 Feb 2022) a few weeks back and wasn't feeling it so moved on but seeing as 'The Emperor' has featured three tracks from it on his latest podcast, I though I'd better re-visit it. It's actually a bit of a 'grower'. 

My choice cuts are "Relaxn at Home Sippn on Patron", "Steppn out 2night" along with "Nobody but u" which KK chose with his other two selections "My Body Yo Body" and "Feels Good 2b Back".

I can't find out anything about the pair but obviously CC (Classic Collection) Volumes 1 (2013) & 2 (2015) were previously released but only by David J.

Carlos Budd Ford [2022] - Say Less [The Secret Art Society]

Carlos Budd Ford released "Say Less" on 22 Feb 2022 and on the same day also released "Side By Side". The only other recent releases I can find from him are "Set The Mood" which is a soulful house tune and an album "There's Only One Me" from which it was taken in 2019.

However, he was a member of a New Jack Swing group Four Sure who released an album and a couple of singles in the 90s.

He is originally from Kansa City but now lives in Toronto.

DJ Kool Keith [2022-03-13] - Soulful Vibes [In2Beats]

Super sub DJ Kool Keith (we'll have to start calling him Ole Gunnar Solskjæ! even though he's a Liverpool fan so perhaps David Fairclough?) did another cover show for DJ Phoenix on In2Beats on Sunday (13 Mar 2022). 

Not only that, he did his regular 2 hour show and must have played extra time and penalties as it's a 3 hour set of all new/recent releases rather than his usual mix of old and new (Soulful Slow Jams).

This week's anti-war / support song for what's going on in Ukraine at the start of the fourth week of conflict is contrivedly taken from the (Russian) Roulette catalogue.

It's "The Human Race" by June Adams from 1965 which has been a popular Northern Soul 'beat ballad' tune for many years.

Soul II Soul [2022] - Keep On Movin' (Zepherin Saint Go Go Mix) [Funki Dred Records]

London producer Zepherin Saint Go Go Mix of Soul II Soul's debut hit "Keep On Movin'" from 1989 is released today (16 Mar 2022). 

I also noticed that they released a video for a Booker T Mix on 15 Feb (included below) which is from a forthcoming "Keep On Movin' Remixes" EP due on 8 Apr 2022. The EP includes both versions posted here along with "Booker T Satta Dub Mix" and "Salsa Mix" and will be available on 12", either transparent purple or black, signed vinyl.

Helena Day [2022] - Drunk on Silence [Self Released]

It's always nice when one of the first tracks you find in a morning is as good as this. It doesn't happen very often as I usually have to plough through lots of dirge before one finally registers.

Helena Day is a new artist from south east London who released her debut single "Drunk On Silence" today (16 Mar 2022). It's from the jazzy/neo soul school.

She spent several years performing with a soul and gospel choir being inspired by soul artists of the 60s and 90/00s, and has developed her own  original style of songwriting that is soulful, poetic and verging on the ethereal.

Stefan Mahendra helped her with production.
