Angel Sessions [2022] - Wait for Me [Self Released]

Angel Sessions is an urban gospel artist from Louisville, KT, now resident in L.A. She was signed to Ichiban records in 1998 and released around four secular albums before switching to gospel and has, to date, released eighteen albums.

Her last single "You Missed a Good Thing" was released 18 Mar 2022 which was a song originally released on her debut album "Introducing... Angel Sessions" in 1998. She released another 'new' single "Wait for Me" yesterday (29 Jul 2020) and like the one earlier in the year is a song from the 90s originally released on her second album "Love Ride" in 1999. A video for the song premieres on YouTube ay 22:00 (BST/UK Time).

Angel has performed with Lenny Williams, The Delfonics, The Stylistics, Brenda Holloway, Freda Payne, Ali Woodson ( The Temptation), The Dells, Mary Wilson (she toured with May Wilson as a Supreme), The Dramatics, L.J. Reynolds ( lead singer of the Dramatics), Maurice White (Earth Wind and Fire), James Brown, Teena Marie, Tamia, Montel Jordan, H Town, The Whispers and Eric Benet

Luciid Soul [2022] - Therapy Sessions [S.O.U.L Music Group] (Full Album)

Luciid Soul is Shanisha Talear Watkins and yet another artist hailing from Atlanta, GA. She's released three singles since 2017 and last week (22 Jul 2022) released a debut EP/album "Therapy Sessions".

I did see this last week and chose not to post it as I felt that it's a bit 'samey' but several tracks are beginning to appear on Amazon UK Hot New Releases top 100 so many must be appreciating it, maybe it needs a few listens? 

The only track that moves me is the opening track "The Apology"

Lank G [2022] - So Good [N.E.G.U.S. Productions]

Those of us of a certain age will immediately recognise the basis for this new single "So Good" from Lank G (Langston Jeremiah Gardner) from Dallas, TX, released today (30 Jul 2022). A video for it premieres tonight at 21:00 (BST/UK time).

It is, of course, a Gamble & Huff song by Harold Melvin & The Blue Notes (feat. Theodore Pendegrass and Sharon Paige to give it its full billing) and another from  the 1975 album "Wake Up Everybody" (as was Dave Lee's Philly Mix of "Don't Leave Me This Way" posted yesterday) "You Know How To Make Me Feel So Good", which has cropped up a few times recently.

The song was also recorded by Collins & Collins on their one and only, self-titled, album in 1980 which had their modern soul gem, a cover of Ashford & Simpson's "Top Of The Stairs" on it.

The Legendary Bluenotes feat. (the so-called deceased!!!) Jean Carn recorded it in 2019 which was reissued in 2021.

I also recall a couple of other tracks from last year that used it as a sample: Atiya on "Smooth Operator" and a horrendous lo-fi track that sounds like it was recorded in a bathroom by L8nC Feat. ProdByBrandon "Ryhme Right"

The Jack Moves [2022] - Seabra [Everloving, Inc]

The Jack Moves impressed us with their last single "Somebody's Watching You" (from Mar 2022) which is bundled with their new single "Seabra" (an EP brewing?) released today (29 Jul 2022). It reminds me a little of the material Snoop Dogg has just released on "Death Row Summer 2022".

They are Teddy Powell and Zee Desmondes from Newark, NJ, who debuted in 2002 with a vinyl only single "Kiss In The Dark" / "A Fool For You" (a cover of Chicago group The Ledgends which has featured on the blog in 2020). 

Their acclaimed debut, self-titled, album arrived on Wax Poetics in 2015 followed by "Free Money" in 2018.

Esnc (Essence A Mobley) from Jersey City, NJ, released her sixth single since 2019 "Ain't Going Nowhere" on Thursday (28 Jul 2022).

Played on Global Soul New Music Hour by Franklin Sinclair last night which my beady eyes completely missed.
