J-Felix [2023] THE MiNT EXPERiMENT Volume 2 [OVN Records] (Full EP)

Bristol born, Brighton based, producer / artist J-Felix (Joe F. Newman) was signed to Brighton label Tru Thoughts through playing guitar for Alice Russell and released his debut album "101 Reasons" in 2015.

He describes his music as "A sublime journey through squelchy electro-funk, tripped-out neo soul and woozy hip-hop beats". He 

He has set up his own label OVN Record for the release of his a four track EP "The Mint Experiment Volume 1" which featureds Chloe Bodur, Victoria Port (a member of Anushka), Juga-Naut, Bessi and Bigzy (Kevin Mwai Njenga). 

He follows it up with "THE MiNT EXPERiMENT Volume 2" again featuring guest artists such as Melonyx, Bessi again and Sol Goodman.

The standout is "Gemini" feat. Melonyx.

Liza [2023] - Give In [FRNDS]

Liza Yohannes is Canadian/Ethiopian based in Toronto. She debuted in 2017 with an EP "February29" (available via Bandcamp). She featured here with her last single, a double single, titled "EGO" consisting of "Room" and "I Lost A Friend" in Nov' 22.

Her first release since then is "Give In" released yesterday.

We also featured her 2021 six track EP "Done is Done" from which we highlighted two tracks "Rolla" and "Memorize Feelings".

Law [2023] - Switch It Up [Sloppy Vinyl]

The new single from Law, "Switch It Up", may go down well in certain quarters and not in others but, as we endeavour to cater for all tastes, we offer it up for consideration.

We initially thought that she was a new name to us but have featured a previous single from her in the form of "Why Me?" in Oct '22. Since then she's released another two before her latest single "Switch It Up" on 14 Jul.

She emerged in Apr 2021 with her fist single and now has nine singles and a full album ("Vent" (Mar '22) to her name. 

Incidentally her real name is Lawand Hill and Law stands for Ladies Always Win ... ain't that right!

Charlie Bereal & Cherese Bereal [2023] - Get Down [Berealent]

Grammy award winning writer/producer/arranger Charlie Bereal has featured here a couple of time previously with more retro style soul, one a cover of Curtis Mayfield "The Makings Of You" feat. Tweet (Feb '23) and the other a retro sweet soul ballad  "Oh Baby" (Aug '22)

He started out with a nine-piece gospel group The Soul Seekers.  He has written songs recorded by Mary Mary, Deborah Cox, Tweet, Mya, R Kelly, Kelly Rowland,  Raphael Saadiq,  Jamie Foxx, Leela James and even Whitney Houston. He's also worked with Queen Latifah, Tank, Missy Elliot, Madonna and many others.

Since 2015 he's released around seven solo singles and two albums. He featured here last with a retro sweet soul tune in Aug 2022.

His latest offering, "Get Down", is the first since "Oh Babay" and, whilst still retaining a certain retro feel, is more contemporary and features his wife Cherese (Chambers) Bereal.

Grace Weber [2023] - Intimate [Self Released]

Another artist who looks like she has an EP/album developing is Grace Weber. We first featured "Insincere" in Nov '22 followed with it being paired up with "Lonely" in March. They now they join her latest single "Intimate" as a three tracker.

L.A. based Grace is native of Wisconsin who was signed to Capitol Records from 2018 but independently released her first album "A Beautiful Space" in Jun 2021, with a Deluxe edition following in Oct. We first came across her in  Jan '22 with a club mix of "Parachute" from the album.
