Gabby Poli [2024] - Pure [Self Released]

A new name to these pages is 22 year old Christian singer Gabby Poli who is the daughter of Grammy nominated producer Poli Paul aka Paul Poli (Black Eyed Peas, Teedra Moses, Christina Milian, Ne-Yo, Jay Z, Nas and even Luther Vandross amongst others).

Gabby emerged in August 2021 with her debut single "All Around". Not surprisingly her music is produced by her father. Her fourth single, "Pure", was released on 5 Jan and is the third single from a forthcoming sophomore album "Deep Waters".

Band Of Pockets [2024] - Is It Real Love? [Self Released] (Full EP)

A group that is quickly becoming one of our firm favourites is Band Of Pockets. They've featured here several times, most recently with their double single "Better Day" / "Feel Me" last July. Since then they released a single "Sorrow Is Temporary" in Sep.

They kick off 2024 with the release of a five track EP "Is It Real Love?" on 10 Jan. The clear standout  is "Your Love" which is quite simply outstanding with Yona Marie's vocals soaring!

The band is a collaborative collective of global musicians founded in 2020 by J.O. (Johan) Nillson (guitarist/composer) from Sweden and Yona Marie (aka Rachel Marie) from Washington D.C. The base group consists of Johan Nilsson, guitars, synths, Yona Marie, vocals, Samuel V Nilsson, bass, Jason Meekins, drums, with additional musicians added to the mix as required.

Willow Stephens [2024] - Future Classic [Self Released] (Full Album)

In August last year Willow Stephens released a six track EP titled "Art of Loving You" which was a pre-cursor to her sophomore album which, at that time, was set to be called "The Best Of Me".

The twelve track album arrived on 9 Jan with the title "Future Classic" containing the previous six tracks and a single in between along with five new sings. 

Willow is a classically trained  multi-instrumentalist and songwriter from Montana originally now resident in L.A. since 2015. Her roots are in jazz, folk, R&B and classical music. 

Her folk side comes through on some songs tracks but there are one or two more soulful ones with our our pick of the pack being the sweet and mellow ballad "Only Time".

Mr. Maph [2024] - Tears [House Of Parliament Music]

One of our favourite tracks from 2023 was Mr. Maph "Sweet Dancer". It was in fact released at the tail end of 2022 but we only discovered it in Feb. It was also remastered and reissued in Aug as the title track of a four track EP "Sweet Dancer EP".

Mr. Maph is Londoner Michael Harding who is now based in Marbella. He's quite prolific, releasing a range of musical styles from soul to EDM. His first single of 2024 is one of his more soulful ones, "Tears", the intro of which  reminds us a bit of Led Zeppelin's "Stairway To Heaven", but don't let that out you off!

Harvey Scales & The 7 Sounds [2024] - Don't You Ever Let It End / The Sound Of Soul [Numero Group #NUM4419]

Numero Group reissue another single from Harvey Scales & The 7 Sounds (last May they reissued "Welcome Home" / "Trackdown"). Both singles were originally released in 1969 on Milwaukee based Magic Touch label owned by Lennie LaCour.

The group was from Milwaukee founded in 1961. The reissue is of the superb deep soul cut "Don't You Ever Let It End" written by Scales and LaCour flipped with a Northern Soul style instrumental "The Sound Of Soul" penned by Scales and band co-founder Albert Vance.

Erica Falls [2024] - Good Time [Self Released]

One of the highlights of last year was the single "Up" from Erica Falls. Ms Falls is back today with a new song called "Good Time". Co-written with Leonard Mercadel, it is more aimed at the dancefloor with a 70s/80s disco funk vibe.
