Aliah Sheffield [2023] - These Songs Are For Anyone Sick Of Earth [Def Jam Recordings] (Full Album)

We first came across Aliah Sheffield with her New Years Eve 2021 single, pre-emotively titled "Never Drinking Again". It didn't seem to get much action first time around, possibly owing to the time of the year? Let's hope it's inclusion on her sophomore album "These Songs Are For Anyone Sick Of Earth", released today, will give it a boost. Another recommended track is "Good For The Money".

Singer-songwriter Aliah Sheffield (sometimes referred to as Nikki Aliah)  was born in Newark, NJ, and raised in Savannah, GA, and is another Berklee College of Music graduate studying film scoring.

Her main instrument is the piano but growing up she learned to play a number of instruments including clarinet and saxophone.

She cites her musical influences as diverse as Deniece Williams, Donny Hathaway, Aretha Franklin and Patti LaBelle to Jazmine Sullivan, Alicia Keys, Adele, Yebba, Jill Scott and SZA.

Gee Bello [2023] - Bring The Family Back (Georgie B. Rework) [Quo Vadiz]

Light Of The World vocalist/percussionist (Ganiyu) Gee Bello has a new single, and we understand is his very first solo single, out today (9 Jun '23) which is a reworking of Billy Paul's UK 80s Soul Weekender anthem "Bring The Family Back" (1979) reworked by Georgie B.

We gave you a preview of the extended version earlier this week but it is now on digital platforms along with a radio edit.

The single is from an upcoming album project "Gee Bello - The House Of Dreams" planned for 2024 and he tells us that further singles will be released prior to the album release.

Gee produced and performed on Light Of The World's soul chart topping "Jazz Funk Power" in Sep 2020.

Alex Fanjul & bassbarcelona [2023] - Every Morning [Self Released]

Alex Fanjul (Alejandro Fanjul Garcia) is a guitarist, composer, producer from Gijón, Spain. He began playing guitar when he was very young and later played bass for a band called Thebas. When the group disbanded two years later he left music returning to it in 2007 playing with several bands which were all short-lived. 

He decided to start a new project at the start of the Covid pandemic (March 2020) essentially for enjoyment and love of music drafting in friends to share and help.

We posted three of his singles together last year ("Superfly" / "Dance Into My Song" / The Cheater"). He's released a few since then which have, in the main, been disco/club oriented. His latest is "Every Morning" with bassbarcelona which is a bit more appropriate for these pages.

Nicola Conte feat. Zara McFarlane [2023] - Arise [Far Out Recordings]

From an upcoming album "Umoja" due on 30 Jun '23, Italian jazz guitarist Nicola Conte has released vocal and instrumental versions of "Arise" feat. Zara McFarlane as the lead single.

The album will be available on vinyl but, unusually, cut at 45RPM, apparently for superior sound quality.

Award winning British jazz vocalist Zara McFarlane, coincidentally, released an album titled "Arise" in 2017 on Gilles Petersen's Brownswood Recordings.
