The Dirty Dozen - The Best Of 2022... Part 09 (Mar 2022 Wk 09) Spotify Playlist

My selection of the best releases this week (Mar 2022 Wk 09)
In no particular order other than tempo.

Another so-so sort of week for good quality new material with nothing really standing out from the pack except the new album from Krishawna which is therefore this week's SoulStrutter Selection of the Week.

Global Soul Chart 5th Mar 2022 (Week 09)

5th Mar 2022

The Global Soul chart broadcast on Sat 5th Mar as it is every Saturday between  5pm-7pm (GMT) on Global Soul Radio.

No "Essential 5" but 15  'Breakers' were played which will be posted separately.

The top two swap positions and Mary J. Blige replaces Moonchild on the top spot after it spent three weeks there. The Royalty Duo is the highest new entry which it would seem no one knew anything about until it was posted here on 21 Feb (it has a release date of 6 Feb but I suspect it's another of those with an incorrect date as I don't know why it wouldn't have been found until 2 weeks later?). A few other new entries posted on SoulStrutter on release worth mentioning are Muni Long, Rose Prosecco and Frank McComb (tipped on by Roger Williams before release).

Summary: 5 risers, 6 fallers, 1 non-mover and 8 new entries

New Entries: Royalty Duo, Nanette Maxine, Natlie Imani, Robert Glasper, Centric, Frank McComb, Muni Long, Rose Prosecco

Highest RisersSound Of Superbad / Marshella Muzic (+7)

Biggest FallersWhodini (-9), Courtney Mickens / Jane Handcock(-7)

Losers: Samm Henshaw, H'Atina, Corey Ronell, Raheem DeVaughn & Bee Boy$oul, Piper Grace, Lady Songbird Jinda, Vonne, De'lisis

Sharna Bass [2022] - Back Of My Hand [EGA Records]

North Londoner Sharna Bass has featured a few times on the blog with three singles last year. Her latest offering in "Back Of Your Hand" released on 24 Feb 2022.

It featured as a breaker on the Global Soul Chart show last night which I'd shortlisted but not posted as that weekend there were so many good new releases that this one didn't make the cut but, hearing it again, that was an omission.

SoulStrutter Top 30 - 6th Mar 2022 (Week 09)

The SoulStrutter Top 30 of the most viewed posts in the last 30 days (i.e. blog readers choices).

There are ten new entries with three entering in the top ten, all of which have seemed to come out of nowhere. Charlie Wilson's new collaborative (and derivative) single has had a ridiculous number of views in only a week and looks like he could give Sounds Of Superbad a run for their money for the top spot if momentum continues. Jade Vanessa and Otis Kane are also both surprise high entries. One that isn't a surprise though is Krishawna's excellent new album which enters at #16 after only five days.

Last week's SoulStrutter Selection of the Week, Rae "Fool", just squeezes in at #30. Full disclosure as she has the same number of views as Kubla but has had fewer days to accumulate them (as Kubla was posted on 17 Feb and Rae 22 Feb) therefore she takes the #30 spot. Nice to see Daniel Leon enter but sadly it will only be for one week as his 30 days since posting will have expired by next week along with at least four others.

It's worth noting that only new material appears in the Top 30, however, re-issued material does attract lots of views and the top 10 currently are:

01 - Down To Earth - Still Ridin' High (vinyl issue)
02 - Don-E - Future Bounce EP (previously released material)
03 - Thelma Houston - Nothing Left To Give (Expansion re-issue)
04 - VA - Soul Drops  (Miles Away compilation)
05 - Manhattans - The Philadelpia Re-edit Sessions (remixes)
06 - Marc Staggers - What The World Needs Now (reissue)
07 - Gil Scott-Heron - Ghetto Ghosts (Live 1977) (live recording)
08 - UCFM - California Funk Machine Vol 1 (compilation of covers)
09 - Raja-Nee - Come Get This Love (forthcoming LRK vinyl reissue)
10 - Dayton - Sky's The Limit (Super Disco Edits prev. unreleased)

Samara Lewis [2022] - Who Am I? [Self Released]

This appears to be only the second single from Samara Lewis, the other "Mismatched" released  last July.

Her new single "Who Am I?" is a very pop slanted tune which she co-wrote with Felton Pilate a former member of  Con Funk Shun. A Con Funk shun album has recently appeared in the Amazon Hot New Releases on the back of  Silk Sonic's cover of their "Love's Train" which he Pilate co-wrote with band member Michael Cooper who also sang lead on the song.
