I've known about this release for a couple of weeks but hadn't realised that it was 'allegedly' released 'quietly' with a release date of 31 Jan 2022. I'm not convinced that it was released then as it seems to have only appeared today, as with the J'Cenae album which also had an incorrect release date, and it would appear that no one else seems to have found it or has been playing it! Having asked around, it was sent as a US promo only this morning.
Melba Moore recruits the services of Carmichael Musiclover for a new single "Company" on her new label Anala.
An 'unlikely' combination on first appearance that works exquisitely. Melba follows up her recent UK #1 soul chart hit "So In Love" and is in fine voice and, as far as I'm concerned, Carmichael Musiclover can do no wrong and sounds a tad like Will Downing in parts on this track. It's also his first recording since releasing his album "Slow Motion" which I've waxed lyrical about sufficiently and should already be in every soul lover's collection. Not surprisingly, to me, the song was written by Carmichael Musiclover with Naomi Marley as it's got his stamp all over it.
This, for me, is sublime, timeless, soul music at its best. Can Melba Moore make it two UK #1s in a row at the age of 76? I think she has a good chance if DJs get behind it, and why wouldn't they?
