The Top 100 New Soul Releases 2021 Q1

As it's the end of the first quarter of 2021 I thought I'd publish a list of the top 100 releases of the year so far.  Essentially it is a consolidation of the weekly 'Dirty Dozen' I feature each Sunday which I started on 7 Feb so there are 96 entries from 8 weeks and I'll select an additional four from this week to make it up to 100. I will whittle it down to my top 10 later.

Shuya Okino Feat. Navasha Daya v Rose Royce - Still In Love

A superb cover of a slightly obscure Rose Royce track released in 1982, their second release on Epic after leaving Whitfield. 

It's just had a 'shed load' of digital remixes last Nov (2020) - no fewer than 12 released on Glitterbox and was released on vinyl 12" on 18 Mar 2021.

It was originally released in 2011 on CD only album 'Destiny' and was also issued on a 12" EP both only released in Japan.

This is the original 12"/Album (Stronger Than Ever) mix from Rose Royce.

Keni Burke [2018] - Let Somebody Love You (Dimitri From Paris DJ Friendly Remix) [Le Edits #DFP002]

When most think of Keni Burke, apart from being a  member of the Five Stairsteps, I guess they would automatically think of 'Rising To The Top', but for me a track that came out before it in 1981 'Let Somebody Love You' is a stormer of a track. 

It got a freshen up and an extension by Dimitri From Paris in 2018. The original 12" mix is only 5:05 and DFP's mix is 8:44. Whilst it may be true Dimitri is from Paris he is actually Turkish, he was born in Istanbul. 

Angel H. [2019] - All I Want To Do Is Love You [Sweet Sounds Productions]

An unreleased track from Sweet Sound Angel H. which lays some beats over Curtis Mayfield's vocal to Move On Up. Angel H. is a DJ/producer from Barcelona and produced this track in Aug 2019.

Howard Hewett [1994] - Crystal Clear [Calibre #69052-1008]

A marvelous soul/jazz track from ex Shalamar lead Howard Hewett, an album only track taken from his 1994 album 'It's Time'.

L.M. Styles [2020] - Good Times Are Coming [Epidemic Sound]

Almost certainly blue-eyed, and perhaps a little 'poppy', but a pleasant tune from last Feb (2020) on a compilation 'Epidemic Presents: Crates (Blanka Edition)'.  I think it may 'borrow' heavily from this by Raisa Andriana 'Bye Bye'?
