A new album by actress/singer/author Stephanie D. Sanders was released 7
Mar 2021. The title track is the standout track, with honorary mentions for stepper 'Love Could Be' and deep ballad 'I Didn't Know'.
A new 3 track EP released on 10 Mar 2021 from 76 year old
James 'Jimmy Soul' Holvay
who was an original member of Chicago blue-eyed soul group
The Mob.
He recaptures that 60s Chicago soul sound. 'Working On It' and
'Love Has Found It's Way' have a Tyrone Davis feel about them and I'm
fairly sure the latter has Tyrone Davis sample in there (is it 'Can I
Change My Mind'?), and Sweet Soul Song is reminiscent of The Impressions,
He recorded his first record in 1957 aged 12. He is a prolfic
songwriter, writing most of The Mob's songs and also for
The Buckinghams
(he co-wrote the wonderful blue-eyed soul tune 'Don't You Care' with Gary
Beisbier, fellow Mob member).
Over 20 years ago James sent me a CDr promo of some songs he'd written and
recorded, which I don't think were ever released. I'll need to dig the CD
out and perhaps, with his permission, post the songs on my YT channel.
Asiahn (aka Asia Bryant) is a relatively new Motown artist who debuted in
2017 with 'Love Train' album followed by 'Love Train 2' in 2019.
In January
this year she released her third body of work, a 5 track EP 'The
Interlude' on Motown. She has just released (18 Mar 2021) a reworking of it entitled 'The
Interlude (Orchestral Performance)' with live videos and, as it says on the
tin, full orchestration.
The music itself defies categorisation, sweet neo soul/R&B I guess, but original.
The best track, for me, is 'My World', but I'll put a link below for the
orignal EP and the Orchestral Performance. I'll also post both versions of 'My World' i.e. original and OP version.
