Morgan Munroe [2022] - Mutual [Self Released]

A new artist to these pages who emerged in 2020. Morgan Munroe is from Leicester who inevitably had to move to London ('the centre of the universe'!) to pursue her career aspirations.

Her latest single "Mutual" (4 May 2022) is another tune that uses The Ambassadors "I Really Love You" (1969) intro (included below for those who don't know it) which has been doing the rounds in recent months. Morgan certainly has a good set of pipes and this is right up my street blending the old with the new and a singer who can 'properly' sing.

Having had a skim through her earlier material this is definitely the best track she's done to date.

Whilst this is marked as explicit, I didn't really notice anything particularly bad, so with that caveat, I'd say that this will do well on the soul charts.

Moonchild [2022] - What You Wanted (Kiefer Remix) [Tru Thoughts]

Hot on the success of their album "Starfruit", Tru Thoughts has released a remix of one of the album tracks by Moonchild "What You Wanted (Kiefer Remix)". Kiefer is a beat-maker, musician from L.A.

It comes paired with the album version and I'll post both side by side for comparison as, to be honest, I struggle to hear the, often only very subtle, difference!

It's one of those slipped out midweek that can get missed and overlooked as it came out on Tuesday (3 May 2022).

Wallace [2022] - Arcade Queen [Self Released] (Full EP)

Wallace (Gollan) is from Wellington, NZ, but I think she may now be based in Sydney.

She has been on the scene since 2015 and has toured wit Rag 'N' Bone Man, Little Simz, Jordan Rakei and Masego amongst others.

Today (5 May 2022) she released a four track EP "Arcade Queen" which contains her last three singles "Orchid Care" Mar 2022), "Every Stroke" (Dec 2021) and "Venus, The Birth Of" (Oct 2021) plus a new song, the title track, "Arcade Queen" which is a collaboration with Close Counters from Melbourne who have featured a couple of times on the blog last year with their single "In Need Of Love" (Nov 2021) and  "FLUX" EP (Mar 2021).

I think this one fits squarely in the 'future soul' category and is an acquired taste which may have purists running for cover.

Mya K [2022] - Tipsy [DMY Artists]

London based, Nigerian, Mya K (Mya Emem Kinlock) featured in March with her last single "Favourite" which I described as future soul and her latest single "Tipsy" released today (5 May 2022) would fall into the same category.

The official video premieres tonight at 18:00 BST.
