SouLutions [2022] - Just One More Christmas [Self Released]

Newcastle's SouLutions (Steve Lee and Louise Mehan) have a Christmas single out, "Just One More Christmas", which is available only from their website. A nice soulful festive song.

Earlier this year they supported Shalamar (two original members Howard Hewett & Jeffrey Daniel with Carolyn Griffey (daughter of Carrie Lucas and Solar Records boss Dick Griffey)) along with special guest Phil Fearon & Galaxy on Thu 2 Jun 2022 at the world famous London Palladium.

VA [2023] - Luxury Soul 2023 [Expansion] (Full Album) Available to pre-order

The annual collection of some of the best new music of 2022 (with the odd one from 2021) from Expansions. "Luxury Soul 2023" has arrived and is available too pre-order from retailers, such as Simply Soul for around the £18 mark (which can't be bad as that's half the price of buying them individually digitally!), and goes on sale on 9 Jan 2023. 

Again this year it consists of 35 tracks spread across three CDs. The majority of tracks should need little introduction as they have been burning up the airwaves in 2022.

Los Charly’s Orchestra Feat. Andre Espeut [2022] - Music For The Soul Pt. 2 [Imagenes Recordings]

Los Charly’s Orchestra is a London based music project created and directed by Venezuelan producers Juan Laya and Jorge Montiel. They combine a retro and modern sound that blends the Boogie-Disco sound of the 70’s with a Latin perspective.

They have collaborated with some serious producers including Joey Negro / Dave Lee, Jose Padilla (Cafe Del Mar), John Morales and Opolopo amongst others.

Their previous material includes "History" feat. Omar, "Sunshine", "Everlasting Love" and "My Barrio" which have gained attention from BBC6 Music's Funk & Soul show host Craig Charles amongst others.

In 2011 LCO released  "The Groove and It's Synonyms" EP which contained "Music For The Soul" for which they have just created a Part. 2 which celebrates more than a decade of music making. They rebuilt the track from scratch and invited their long time friend and collaborator Andre Espeut to deliver the vocal.

The new version, "Music For The Soul Pt. 2", is out a week on Friday (16 Dec '22)

The 25th Street Band is a London based crossover-jazz project founded by Russ Klinger and Dave Radnor. It features guest artists from around the world such as Josiah Ruff (vocals), Mornington Lockett (sax), Joel Kibble (vocals), Tom Brechtlein (drums), Kim Mont (vocals), Jason Meetkins (drums), Brian Holloway (guitar), Hussain Jiffry (bass), David Bitelli, Bill McBirnie (flute), Ann Bailey (vocals), Jandira Da Silva (vocals), Henry Armbug-Jennings (trumpet), Linlie Hamilton (trumpet). 

The guests have worked with major artists like Whitney Houston, Stevie Wonder, Jay Graydon, Al Jarreau, Marcus Miller, Ray Charles, James Taylor, George Michael, Elton John, Sergio Mendez, Ronnie Scott, Herb Alpert, Chick Corea, Robben Ford, Chaka Khan, Jacob Collier, Brian McKnight, Cheryl Crow, Gloria Gaynor, Michael McDonald… and many more.

Their latest single is "I'll Always Walk With You" featuring Joel Kibble released on 5 Dec '22.

Frankie Bevery - A Profile

Another artist celebrating a birthday today is Frankie Beverly who is 76 (born 6 Dec 1946). An in depth article was featured in Nov 2020 so rather than repeat it, we refer you to it HERE.

However, at that time we were not using Spotify and all music was linked to YouTube, so we will do a Spotify playlist of some of his best music.

A couple of his 'not to be missed' early recordings are (surprisingly in the case of his Northern Soul classic "If That's What You Wanted") not included on Spotify so below are some links to YouTube. The other two tracks are of a early version of his first charting single with Maze, "While I'm Alone" recorded as Frankie Beverly's Raw Soul in 1972 along with Maze's performance of it on Soul Train circa 1977.

There's only a limited number of tracks that can be put in playlist as he and Maze have recorded so much great music, but all of Maze's albums except "Can't Stop The Love" are featured on Spotify (follow links if you wish to listen to them).

Willie Hutch (6 Dec 1944 - 19 Sep 2005), the artist who gave birth to the name of this blog which was inspired by his album track "Soul Strut" from his 1977 Motown album "Havin' A House Party", would be celebrating his 78th birthday today.
